Francis's Story

After High School I went to Navy bootcamp and joined the reserves. I spent a few years in Visalia at the College of the Sequioas before transferring to UC Davis where I got a bachelors of science degree. The G.I. Bill paid for part of college and I did weekend drills in the navy. I was a hospital corpsman with the marine corps one weekend a month. I then went to medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. It was during clinical rotation in Dayton Ohio, where I met my future wife during a surgery rotation. I later did two residencies: Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Ohio University here in Dayton Ohio. My wife went on be be a dermatologist. We moved to Las Vegas in 2004, where I worked as an ER doctor for two years! I saw a lot of cool stuff in Vegas. What happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas! Moved back to Ohio in 2004 and love living in the heartland. My wife Barbara and I live here in Beavercreek with our three children: Bryn (5), Jackson (3) and Spencer (3). I am a huge Cubs fan and hopefully they win the world series this year. I love to golf and try to play at least once a week. Can't wait until the kids are a little older so they can come out and play golf with me. Barb and I love going out with the kids to the zoo, aquarium and museums. I like trying out...Expand for more
new restaurants and seeing movies (when we can get a babysitter) My motto: Enjoy life! What I remember of High School: I was a freshman when I moved to Dinuba from Illinois. I didn't know anyone and I was initially a shy kid with no friends. My first friend was Vince Olivas. We were walking together to school on the first day and we struck up a conversation and became friends. Freshman year was a blur, but it was scary not knowing a soul. Thank goodness for Track. I met Richard Medina, Brett Philpott, Phil Parker, and several other students. I really believe athletics and school activities are important for social growth. At least it was for me. Once I got some confidence and made some friends I ran for Class President my sophomore year and won. I was later Junior and Senior Class President, and that got me out of my shell. High School is brutal in general, and for me, I really enjoyed those days. I wish I could have been more focused towards college, but I joined the Navy and attended COS in Visalia which was the right move for me. High School was both a great and terrifying time in my life. We were all so young and vulnerable. My line of work as a ER doctor I see young kids all the time coming in for accidents and trauma from drinking and drugs, and realize how lucky so many of us were.
