Alan Francois's Story
Life has been quite varied as well as interesting and challenging.
The journey has included working in sales, marketing, information technology, and consulting within various industries including the airlines, banking, health care/insurance, telecommunications, theme parks (Disney World), and IT consulting. All along that path I have met many very interesting individuals with whom I continue to remain connected. During all of that, family ties have broadened and deepened across both sides of the family.
Family, volunteerism, work, home projects, pets, healthy habits, tennis/cycling events, friends, and travel continue to offer a varied as well as interesting set of activities.
My parents relocated from Evanston to live with me in KC during their last years. There was plenty of space in the house and it was a challenge but well worth the time and effort. Dad helped run the house and take care of my mother while I worked. We all traveled to see cousins in Europe on occasion until my mothers' passing.
Dad and I later traveled several times to ...Expand for more
Paris as well as visit Normandie where he had first landed seven days after the initial landings. The French were extraordinary making the effort to thank Dad in English for his contribution during WWII. The 60th anniversary was incredible to attend thanks to tickets obtained via the USO.
IT and Business Intelligence continue to be a passion with plenty of opportunities remaining. I love the work.
Our local Alliance Francaise continues to go strong and I remain active as a board member, webmaster, as well as chief organizer and crepe chef for our yearly Ethnic Festival France Booth. Of forty-five booths, we have the second longest line for crepes, after Hawaii which sells ice cones (in the middle of August)!
The house, friends, and pets are welcomed distractions during the time remaining during the week. I love doing home repairs and don't hesitate to tackle new projects. I was recently hanging three stories in the air to clean gutters!
It's an interesting voyage with an eye for experiencing more to come.
Wishing the best to my fellow ETHS'ers!
