IT'S ALL ABOUT ME, FRANK A. EMRICK
Frank Emrick - Biography
Me being an opinionated, 86 year old representational artist. I studied under Ed Nicholson, a portrait painter who split his time between Santa Barbara, CA and Peoria, Illinois. I won a scholarship to the American Academy of Art in Chicago (in 1948) and spent 1-1/2 of 2 years under the tutelage of Bill Mosby, who taught many of todayâs really good fine artists. The older ones. Still trying to qualify in that category. âGoodâ that is. Got the old part down.
The eating habit steered my talents to âcommercialâ art (graphic art now days). I became proficient in design, illustration and photo retouching. Started Emrick & Assoc. in 1969. Started small ad agency in 1976, Ads Infinitum, Inc. which continued until 1992, when I retired. Kept a couple accounts to keep me in toys during retirement.

One of the benefits of practicing âcommercial artâ is the verbal and visual creative challenge to work within restrictive parameters to achieve successful solutions to influence peopleâs lifestyles and purchasing habits. It has certainly influenced the content of my âfineâ art.
In 2005 I joined OPA, Oil Painters of America, and have been juried into the OPA 2005 National Exhibition in Chicago and into three OPA Eastern Regional Exhibits; 2008, in Nashville, Tennessee; 2009, in Jacksonville, Florida; & 2011 in Orleans, Maine. Won a $500 Award of Excellence for my painting titled âReincarnationâ in 2008. (Can be viewed on OPA website) Iâve also been juried into six Richeson 75 competitions.
Family: 3 children, 2 boys & a daughter, 6 grandchildren. 2 great grandchildren. Wife, Donna, deceased, 3/27/13. Nurse, from Denmark, WI. Married 7/3/54.
