Frank's Story
Life
PERSONAL
One of the reasons I have a dark and checkered past is that I remained single for the first 54 years of my life. Then I found my soul-mate. Dana Joslin is the perfect and unusual combination of talented professional woman and loving nurturing mother. She is also lovely. We were married on St. Patrick's Day 2000. Dana is Director of Nursing at Heart Hospital in Austin.
In addition to the perfect mate, I stumbled into a family with perfect children. Although I am always in trouble with Dana for my bad influence on them, the kids just laugh and encourage me. My daughter Lillian Ross is 24 and is working he way through schools in Boston, St Petersburg, New York and Texas. Her dream is to travel the world as a photojournalist -- or maybe to be a child psychologist. My son Nathan is 28 is headed to Chicago for grad school in psyc. He did tours in Western & Eastern Europe and Western Africa.
UPDATE 2016: Ross is the mother of Colette, who just turned one. Nathan is a Firefighter in San Antonio.
We also have a cat. Bing. She will spend hours fetching for me. (Or as I am sure she looks at it - I will spend hours throwing things for her)
PROFESSIONAL
As a young engineer immediately out of college I worked as an Integrated Circuit Product Engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas (typical left-brained nerd). In the early 70's I founded an advertising and marketing firm (to provide an outlet for my frustrated right brain). Being a hopeless romantic, I got into the restaurant business in 1978. A San Antonio-based restaurant ...Expand for more
company, 1776 Inc., grew to eleven locations throughout Texas. Also as a hopeless romantic, I owned a winter sporting-goods manufacturing business in Aspen, Colorado. Lately I have been trying to think of a way to own a vineyard.
For serious work, in 1985 I founded Federer Resources to provide interim CEO services for companies in financial distress or undergoing rapid change. As interim CEO for over a dozen firms, my clients have ranged from start-up and small growth companies to 75 year old US and international corporations, both publicly and privately owned firms. I have been a member of the Turnaround Management Association since its inception in 1988. I also belong to the Alliance of Merger and Acquisition Advisors and Human Capital Institute.
I have over thirty years in senior management with extensive experience in managing businesses through challenging times. I like to think that my engineering background, combined with my business experience, provides a unique set of management, financial and analytical skills. Although, it has been suggested that my real role is acting as the company shrink.
