Frank's Story

Life I was an Army brat as are a lot of the others on Classmates. I was born in Berlin, Germany and grew up in LA, NY, TX, OK, back to Germany and then back to OK and TX. I attended grade school in LA, NY, and Alvarado, TX. I went to junior and senior high school at Eisenhower Jr/Sr HS in Lawton, OK until my senior year, when I transferred to Nürnberg American HS in Fürth, Germany. After graduation I came back to Lawton for a year and attended Cameron College. I started dating Miriam "Muff" White who was attending Eisenhower HS at the time. We planned on getting married after she graduated. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. Next my father retired from the army and moved us back to Texas where I lived for a short period before receiving a draft notice and then joining the USAF. While in the AF, I was stationed stateside in WY, AR, and TX with overseas tours to Vietnam, Thailand, and Germany. I was active duty from 1971-1979 and stayed with the reserve until 1993, when I retired. Muff and I found each other again after 27 years apart and in 1998 finally married. My only son Sean (from a previous marriage) has two daughters and a son. I have worked in the oil industry since 1979 and currently live in Burleson, TX. My hobbies are plastic modeling and aviation/railroad photography. School I was an Army brat and moved around a lot throughout my youth. he American school in Berlin, Germany. I came to the US for 1st grade at a small town called Simpson in Louisiana. It was close to Fort Polk. Second grade found me in East Aurora, NY just outside of Buffalo. The school was right next to the world famous Fisher-Price toy factory. Again that was short lived as my father was sent to Fort Bliss, TX for school. The first half of my third grade was spent at Alta Vista elementary in El Paso, TX. Following my father again, we moved to a small country town in north Texas called Alvarado. Alvarado was home to a remote Nike missile site and it would be my home through the first half of eighth grade. My father had spent a remote assignment for the last year while I remained in Alvarado. Upon his return in 1965 we moved to Lawton, OK, home of Fort Sill and Eisenhower Jr/Sr HS. I attended "Ike" for 3½ years through my Junior year. In 1968 my father was shipped to Germany. I of course would follow and attended Nürnberg American High School for my Senior year. NAHS was quite the experience. I commuted 40 miles each way daily by Army bus from the city of Bamberg where I actually lived. I lived right under the limit. Had I been 50 miles from school, I would have had to live in the dorm. I graduated in an opera house in Fürth, Germany in June 1969. My father retired from the Army the following month and we returned to Lawton where he and my mother owned a house.
