Frank's Story
Life
Colonel Frank L. Nelson is the Director, Medical
Service Corps, Office of the Surgeon General.
He is the principal spokesperson for the Chief,
Medical Service Corps in all matters to include
interactions with the Assistant Secretary of
Defense (Health Affairs), Service Surgeons
General, Air Force Personnel Center, major
command surgeons' staff and the Air Force
Colonels' Group. He is responsible for
formulating policy, establishing programs that
support recruitment, accessions, and training of
Medical Service Corps (MSC) officers. Colonel
Nelson also provides direction, oversight, and
counsel to over 1,000 MSC officers in education,
professional development, and assignments.
Col Nelson is a fully qualified MSC officer. His
last assignment was as the Director of Regional
Health Services Operations at TRICARE Golden Gate, Office of ...Expand for more
the Lead Agent,
Department of Defense Health Services Region 10, Travis AFB, CA. The Lead Agent
directs the provision of health care for DoD Health Service Region 10, assuring optimum
access to care and quality health care services at the most reasonable cost for Army,
Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, and Air Force beneficiaries in northern and central
California.
Colonel Nelson was born in Albany, New York and graduated from Phillip Schuyler
High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and received a
direct commission as a Medical Service Corps officer in 1976. Colonel Nelson and his
wife, Renee have four children: Stephanie, Nichole, Katrina, and Jason.
