Frank's Story
I wish I could remember more people from my old high school class. I actually grew up in Cleveland and then Oxford, Ohio. We moved to Dayton View for my 7th grade year. There I went to Cornell Heights Jr. High. I lived on Vancouver Drive, which was at the edge of the district, most of the classmates I got to know there went to Fairview High School, just a few I knew from Cornell Heights went on to Colonel White. I knew a few more from the Soul Band I was in with my brother Ken Renfrow, (class of 1970), James (Droopy) Greathouse, Tim Dozier, Norman and Vincent Beavers, and Harvey Lee Ellison. Our band's name was "The Excursions" we played at the 1970 Col. White Talent Show as well as the one at Roosevelt, as well as at many nightclubs and other venues. I also remember a few fellow students I got acquainted with in my classes, but not many, as it was such a big school, and most seemed to come from Brown Jr. High and already had their friendships formed for the most part. I left Col. White at the beginning of my junior year, was soon married and had a daughter, dabbled into the Mother Earth News "back to the land" lifestyle and then apprenticed at Fitzsimmons Piano as a piano tuner-tech which is still my profession today...Expand for more
. Some may remember me as the guy with very long, unkempt dark brown hair and a reddish beard. I always wore Levi jeans, a white tee-shirt, off-white wool athletic socks and classic black Converse canvas gym shoes (i.e. the high school age soul-type attire of the time). Some knew me by the nicknames of "Jesus" or "Cochise" due to my appearance. It was a tumultuous period with racial strife in the school, Anti-war protests, the Kent State shootings, all of which I was swept up into. I remember the first day of my freshman year there was a knifing and full-fledged racial riot, and the principal had me and my brother in the office, investigating us as "outside agitators". from Fairview. :-) I do remember fondly the sweet little old lady Mrs. Hendricks' Latin Class and the very pretty young Mrs. Martin's English Class ( I had a big crush on her at the time). I am enjoying looking through the 1969 and 1971 year books, to look for those few I do remember. I hope the 1970 book gets posted soon, that is the one I may be in, although I don't actually remember ever being there for picture day. I have been married to my wife Veronica for 23 years and now live in Fort Thomas, KY, we have three daughters, and five grandchildren.
