Frank's Story

Some may remember me as a feral child, barefoot, long hair & making the art shows. In any event, I got saved & civilized, shoes & tie, married with kids. I've had an interesting journey, a blessed life. My education was interrupted, but I studied & worked, learned & became a minister. Cooper Road, Rose Park & Saviers Blvd were some of my areas to find people to tell about the Lord. More than once when I'd look for a drug dealer (who is now a believer) the Oxnard police stopped me to check me out! I've ministered across the country in big and small places, rural and urban. I married an African American woman in Alabama just after they lynched a man & did not know if they were going to shoot us or blow up the church. I served for years as the right hand man to Bishop Charles Blake. I got to meet Rosa Parks and Bill Clinton. Got to walk and talk with Stevie Wonder. He is funny. I told Steve how I used to bring a liquor bottle to his concert when I was a kid. He told me I could still come, just don't bring the bottle! Have not had a drink since July 1975. You may remember through school I had a damaged vocal chord, could not read a paragraph out loud. But I made a living as a public speaker. Kinda strange, eh? I've been to Africa, spoke at a conference in Nairobi City Hall, also at one of the worst slums, Mathare North. I convinced a practi...Expand for more
cing witch to call on Jesus. I was in LA in 92 when the riots broke out and went in to the riot each day. Then worked on clean up. A man who told me he was going to kill me, instead got saved. Yep, an interesting journey. In 2010 my dad died and I retired from pastoring a local church. The man who succeed me was once a crack addict I went after. I'm still in ministry, get to speak in different cities. We moved Mom in with my family. Granddaughter arrived! After years of being so very busy, I began painting again. Got a call in July from a man as he was leaving the White House who told me "The President will see your artwork today." OK, that & $1.75 will buy me a cup of coffee. For a view of my art and other stuff, check out FrankERobinsonJr (one word) on Youtube or Google. My book just came out, Letters To a Mixed Race Son, its online at Amazon, Kindle or Barnes & Noble, etc. I'm writing other books. My new word for retired is unemployed or self-employed, so buy my book! The next chapter ought to be interesting. I have gotten to speak with some of our classmates from time to time. I remember many schoolmates fondly, but you know we're getting older...Some of our friends from the Oxnard area have died, some I miss dearly.
