Frank's Story
Right after I graduated from Roosevelt I went off to UCLA, after earning my BA I decided on law school. I postponed law school so I could give back to my community......who am I kidding?.....law school was expensive, money was tight and I figured I would work - GASP - and save money so I could afford law school. Following the advice of a friend I decided to substitute teach for a year or two and save some money. I deferred my law school acceptance and went to LAUSD central offices to apply for a substitute job, all with the hopes of saving up money to be able ...Expand for more
to pay for law school.
When I got to the district I was informed that there was a bilingual teacher shortage....so armed with my home learned Spanish I worked my way into an interview and an actual job teaching. All these years later I am still in education.....I currently work as an assistant principal at Aragon Avenue Elementary School and I still enjoy my job. (I just started my 15th year with the district)
Maybe someday I'll reconsider and apply to law school; maybe when I grow up. Until then I'll continue to do what I enjoy and continue to do it well.
