Frank's Story

Life has been pretty good for me. I met Linda at Lindsay Place High School, in Don Ross's math class. We got married 5 years later and we're still chugging along after 40 years. We have 2 children, Russell and Jennifer, and, now, 3 grandchildren. My job has been varied. I taught for 27 years at the elementary level and then was elected president of our local teachers' union. I went on full time syndical leave for my 4 one-year terms. I then became a full time professional staff member with our union where I currently work. I help teachers with the collective agreement and manage the union office. In particular, I advise on retirement questions, maternity leave, preventative leave, health and safety and insurance. I've also become the union's IT department. An interesting side light to working with the union is seeing former students who have gone into teaching themselves. I was very fortunate teaching at Mountainview School in Otterburn with a tremendously talented staff and principal. Along the way I've had a chance to develop many interests. In soccer I coached taking our team from a tiny club to the Quebec Games after winning our r...Expand for more
egion. I then became a referee and moved up to referee at the elite and semi-professional level. In community theatre I started in 1986 (I think) when Otterburn Players asked me to take a role in their production. From there I've gone to acting regularly, directing, stage managing and my other backstage roles. I've also brought my passion to elementary schools introducing and directing musicals with elementary age students. A 2008 production of Moon Over Buffalo that I was in has been nominated for an award in Quebec amateur theatre. I am currently (2013) president of Théatre Saint-Bruno Players, a bilngual theatre group and will be in the production of "Calendar Girls" April 2013. A recent passion is golf. For years I could never understand the interest, but I began playing in 2006 and in my third year with a handicap of 29, and playing with 3 other very strong players, I shot an 86. My current handicap is 18. I've built a dollhouse for my granddaughter, Abigail. It started with a casual comment about how it might be fun to build a dollhouse. It fits with my interest in woodworking and has given me an excuse to over-equip my workshop.
