Frank's Story
Life
After graduation in 1969, I spent 3 terms at CW Post majoring in Education. I transferred up to KSC/UNH in Jan '71, completing my BSE in May, '73. I accepted a position in Claremont, NH immediately upon graduation. I taught 5th/6th grades at the Way School and began my grad studies "up the road" in Hanover at Dartmouth. I was invited by "The Victorian State Teacher Selection Program" out of Hayward, CA to represent my profession for 2 years in Australia. I left in August, 1975 and was posted in Queensland. I taught mostly 5th & 6th grade level students during this time. In mid 1977, I was offered a teaching posting in Zurich, Switzerland. I spent several years in Zurich & Athens, Greece working in 2 different int'l schools. I travelled extensively throughout Europe during these years. I returned to Queensland in the early 1980's to continue my career. During the years that followed I completed my M.Ed. and began work towards my Doctorate in Educ. I taught grades 4-7 in Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and New Zealand. Due to my dad's failing health, I returned to New York in the early 1990's to assist mom in my father's care. He passed away in 1996. During this time, I was very privileged to have been able to teach for short periods in Russia, Republic of Georgia and for 6 months back in Australia. Like the boomerang, I've returned to where it all began! I've been working nearly 5 years at CW POST/LIU with graduate & undergrad students. I guess "my wings have been clipped" for now, as mom is homebound in a wheelchair and I'm the caregiver. She's had 5 strokes, but thankfully can still do many things. I'm hoping to return to my career in the near future. As Dale Barrentine once quoted in our high school senior pictures: "I have miles to go and promises to keep before I sleep..." Two more of life's "dreams" left to complete!!
College
After graduation ...Expand for more
in May, 1973, I was offered a 5th grade position up in Claremont. I spent the summer at our family vacation home in Harrisville, then found an apartment near my new school. The kids were great in Claremont. My first two years of teaching in Claremont were wonderful. I was offered a posting in Queensland, Australia in April, 1975. I moved to Australia in Aug. 1975, where I taught mostly upper elementary classes until my departure for Switzerland in Aug. 1977. I then spent several years teaching in International Schools in Switzerland & Greece. I returned to Queensland, Australia in the early 1980's, teaching grades 4-7 in Queensland, New South Wales & Tasmania. I had a few teaching jaunts "across the pond" in New Zealand as well. I returned to New York in the early 1990's. I travelled to Russia & The Republic of Georgia where I briefly taught in children's orphanages. I returned to NH to teach summer school at Conval Regional High School during the summer of 1994. It was a great experience working with high school age students again in the area of English/Grammar & Literature. The last few years I have been working with graduate & undergrad students at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. It has been a most enjoyable & very rewarding experience. I'm looking forward to returning to the Keene area again in the near future. My sister just bought a house in Westmoreland. She & my brother-in-law will be setting up a very special eatery in Keene in the near future! I hope to return to teaching elementary school again after I sell my house in Bayville (any of my classmates want to buy a house with a lovely harbor view and seconds from a quiet beach?) and buy a place in the Monadnock area again. If any of my former KSC classmates are principals & would be interested in hiring a very experienced elementary teacher, please e-mail me.
