Frank's Story

Don't really know why I'm doing this, except that according to this web site, a number my former classmates have expressed an interest in what has become of me. Can't understand that. Must just be curiosity! In high school, I was basically into music. I was in numerous bands; The Constellations, Westwoods, Royal Teens, and my favorite, Johnny & the Squires. The Squires were made up of all Pennsauken High students; John Marshall, Mel Lebed, Bob Baruch and myself. It was a group that could really play their instruments and sing extremely well. I still keep in touch with Mel but have lost contact with Bob and John. **NOTE:(I take that back...........since I originally wrote this, Bob Baruch has contacted me through classmates, and both he and John has become a "friend" on the site! and I happened to fortunately come back in contact with John. We preformed at the 50 year reunion (1965) class reunion. I really didn't do anything, but John performed. I was there as an original member of Steve Rosler 's and my original group called the Constellations. After high school, I entered college and obtained a degree in Advertising Design and Photography. I worked in NY and decided I didn't like the commute, so I went back to college at Glassboro State (Rowan University) to get a teaching degree in art. I taught at Clearview Regional for 35 years and recently retired. I really enjoyed the teaching experience. It was very rewarding to help mold young lives and help them, both academically as well as personally. I still keep in touch with many of my former students and find joy in the fact they they now have families and can relate to being parents themselves. During this time of teaching, I continued the pursuit of my music. After the Squires disbanded, I joined up with another band, The Mark IV. We played clubs all over Jersey and Pennsylvania, from our local area to the shore. I was fortunate to be noticed by some influential people and started a recording career. I played in many recording studios in NY and Philly, doing studio session work for some producers of big name groups as well as my group. I did "commercial jingles" and "radio identification spots"....remember WIBG? I did them along with my lead guitarist. We overdubbed all the parts, both instrumental and vocal. Shortly afterward, WIBG went off the air! I retired from music in 1979 because it got to be very time consuming and I needed to be home with my family. Teaching during the day and recording sessions at nig...Expand for more
ht didn't leave much time for anything else. After leaving music, I started a photography business which continued until my wife's death in 1985. I married in 1971 to a Camden Catholic girl, JoAnne Pierce, and we had two daughters, Kristen (1975) and Leigh (1981). JoAnne passed away in 1985 from cancer (talk about high school history repeating itself) and I became a single parent. Both girls turned out quite well, despite being raised by me! Kristen graduated from Drexel with degrees in International Finance, Marketing, minored in Business Law and Psychology..........I guess she figured her father needed some psychiatric help! After working at Hunt Co. in Philly, she decided to apply for an administrative position at University Of Penn. It was then that she decided to go back to school (on her dime this time...of course!) and get a Nursing Degree. After completing her degree, she had to work at Penn for a while to pay back for their "free" education. She then entered Widner University to get her graduate degree in nursing. She is now employed as an ICU nurse at Christiana Hospital's ICU unit in Delaware. Leigh went to TCNJ and received her Bachelors degree(s) in Early Childhood and K-8 with a minor in Psychology......I think they are really trying to tell me something! She completed her Master's Degree in Curriculum & Supervision and passed her exam for her Principal's certificate. She married in August of 2009. I posted pictures from her wedding.....no more college tuition's and no more weddings to pay for! Leigh had a baby on Nov. 3, 2010. A 6 lb. 4oz. boy they named Nicholas. Leigh later had a daughter, Ava. That makes a total of 5 grandchildren. That's a lot of babysitting for me! Unfortunately, my oldest daughter Kristen, has been involved with a fight against breast cancer, Hopefully everything will turn out for the best, but, I have reservations from what I have personally experienced in the past. I have 3 wonderful grandchildren from Kristen, two from Leigh. I remarried in 1991 to Susan Scafini. (Highland 1976 grad) Since retiring, I have been remodeling my house, attending car shows (I have a car that I show) and working in photography. I guess to sum up my life, one may use the quote "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times". I have few regrets over my lifetime and only hope that my remaining years will yield more of "the best of times".....and more grandchildren! I also hope my daughter Kristen's problems will be resolved in a positive result.
