Frank's Story

Life I've lived in the Dallas area since 1985. I divorced in 2005, having being married 17 years and have a 27 year old son we adopted while foster parents. I moved up here to work for the Carrollton Police Department. I'd gotten out of law enforcement in 1987. I worked for Ericsson for 6 years, and did a lot of traveling to Florida, the New England states, Michigan and the Southeast, until the Telecomm melt down of 2001 . I was offered a job with The Boeing Company in Homeland Security because of 9/11, from 2002 till 2005, supporting the Transportation Security Administration at all U S and U S Territorial Airports, supporting Explosive Detection Machines and other passenger pre-flight screening equipment. I transferred to Houston and worked till the TSA canceled the contract we were working under. I moved back to Garland and got a job with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Police Department in Communications. My dad had passed in 2002, and in 2005 Mom passed from Cancer. I had an opportunity to take flight lessons to fly helicopters and I quit work (GAG) and started lessons full time. I had trouble the first time I had to go to the FAA flight surgeon because of my eyes. I had to renew my license after a year and they decided my vision was not good enough to renew my license. I am currently with the SMU Police department. It reminds me very much of Portland Police and I work with some great people here. I am planning on staying here till I retired, I HOPE ! UPDATE: In November of 2009 I bought a house in Rowlett, a suburb east of Dallas and the city where ...Expand for more
I last worked as a patrolman. Rowlett is on Lake Ray Hubbard and I'm about 3 blocks from the lake. My son is happy because he has a room now, instead of having to sleep on the couch on visits. When I worked here in 1985-1986, there was about 20,000 people. There are now about 80,000. (still waiting on census for 2010) I like Rowlett because in a strange way it remind me of Portland. If anyone else is living in the Metro-Plex, give me a call. If you will be in the area, same thing, I'm in the book. I was a Student Trainer on the 1975 NAIA National Championship Football Team. That year we went to Hawaii to play the very first game in Aloha Stadium. We BEAT Hawaii 43-9! GO HOGS! We were invited to play in Europe the following summer, and did not find out who was going from the Training and Equipment Staff till days before the team was to leave. I'm glad Bill Lackey (MOJO) got to go. I was also the Student Trainer on the Girls Volleyball and Men Track team. I was VERY LUCKY to work and be friends with Bill Lackey who graduated from A&I and went to work for the Houston Oilers, before they moved. He was found unconscious in the locker room and passed away. I miss him very much! LONG LIVE MOJO! I am still at SMU and really enjoy working there. The new picture I put up is from March of 2009, when my son and I were at Pearl Harbor. We went to Honolulu for Spring Break. It was my first time back since we played in Aloha Stadium in 1975. The stadium has taken a beating being out in the salt air, but they are starting to fix it up. UPDATE: I retired from SMU Police in January of 2019.
