Franklin's Story
ONCE UPON A TIME
After failing High School in my Senior year (1966) I finally got my diploma in February 1967. Like most guys in our class, I received a draft notice and decided to join the US Army instead of being drafted. I went to Basic Training at Ft. Ord, CA. I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright, AK near Fairbanks, AK 11/06/1968 to May 5, 1970. Then Ft. Knox, KY till Jan.1971. After the Army I attended LA Pierce Jr. College for one semester. I married Shiela Wolfe, who had graduated from Burbank High in 1970. Worked for Safeco Title Insurance in Panorama City until we became pregnant.
I again joined the US Army in March 1973 to attend Helicopter Flight School. I failed a flight physical and was transfered to Ft. Eustis, VA. My son Alan Shayne Dewey was born on Cinco De Mayo, 1973 in Newport News, VA. While ststioned at Ft. After my discharge from the Army I moved back to Burbank for the next 5 months then in January 1975 I permanently moved to Anchorage, Alaska. I was able through the course of three marriages to raise a family of four. 1 boy and 3 girls. All have moved away from Alaska. 2 have married and given me 6 grandchildren, with one more on the way.
With nearly 40 years in Alaska, I plan to be heading to Eastern Texas soon and start a new career in Equine Therapy. 61 years old is too young to just wind down. I've lost my left kidney to cancer in 2001, I've had 2 minor strokes in 1999 and 2006 the second one cost me my lifes career. through it all God has been there for me, the rest of my life is in His hands. I may have been a failure in school, a nerd and at times a creep, but I will not give up on life. I plan to work harder in the next 20 years than I ever have in my life. Here's to the next 20 years.
