Franklin's Story
Hello everyone. Wow. The years do fly. I want to start out by saying that due to family sickness of my father, I had to drop out of high school after my freshman year. I worked odd jiobs that I could get and decided to join the Navy in January 1955. I graduated from bootcamp in April 1955 and was able to get my High School GED in June 1955, the year and month that I would have graduated if I could have.remained in school. I continued my education in the Navy by taking many correspondence courses. I was promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class in April 1956 and went right up the ladder very fast. I was promoted to Storekeeper 1st Class in August 1959, Promoted to Chief Storekeeper July 1963, Promoted to Warrant Officer 1966, got my Commission as an Ensign in the Supply Corps in July 1969 and retired as a Lieutenant, Supply Corps January 1975. a couple banks for a period of 15 years (1975-2000) and worked as a Real Estate Saleman from 1975 to 1985, then from 2000 to present. I loved the Real Estate Profession and have been licensed as a Broker. I am presently licensed in Virginia and North Carolina as an Associate Broker. I am now planning on retirement by the end of 2016. I grew up at Sun/Glen Jean. In 1956 I was married to Norma Dobbins from Minden and we just celibrated 60 years of marriage. We have two children, Frank (Decease Jan 2015), died of lung cancer. He had two beautiful girls, now Age 29 and 27. The oldest has blessed us with a beautiful great grandaughter, Age 6 and a great grandson age 3. We have a daughter who has blessed us with two grandsons, age 34 and 27. The oldest David is a song writer, musican and lives in Nashville. The younger Zachary is an Attorney who lives in Virginia Beach We live in Chesapeake, Va. Frank Elkins
