Fred's Story
Life
My Spouse
My wife (Nancy Brecheisen-Sunset '71)and I met during our junior year at Sunset. We started dating during the summer of 1970. Her family moved to Houston, Tx in the summer of 1972 just before I joined the Air Force in San Antonio, Tx. We continued to see each other and were married on May 24, 1975.
Our Children (& Grandchildren)
We have been blessed with three kids, two daughters and a son. Jennifer (27) and her husband Matt live in College Station with their sons Rylan (2) & Tytus (newborn). Jenn & Matt both graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003. Valerie (23) and her daughter Claire (4) live in Austin, with Nancy and I. Mike (25) still lives at home while he manages the Pflugerville branch of Longhorn, Inc. - a PVC pipe, fitting and valves supply house.
Education & Life - Beyond Sunset
After Sunset, I spent a year working for Peterbilt Motors in Newark and then joined the Air Force for five years. Four of those five years were spent in Texas. Since Nancy had obtained her nursing license while living in Houston before we got married, and we had made some dear friends in San Antonio, we decided to stay in Texas and raise our family. (And it cost a lot less to buy a house in Texas than in Calif!)
After my time in the Air Force, Nancy worked in hospitals and doctors offices while I attended college in San Antonio and worked 30-40 hours a week for a pipe, fitting and valve supply house. We were offered an opportunity to move to Austin in 1982 and took it. This allowed me to finish my BBA-Management degree at the University of Texas - hook'em HORNS!!!
Nancy and I home-schooled our kids through 8th grade and then sent them off to the local high school - which was a fine school...Expand for more
. Actually, Nancy did the schooling - and a great job she did. I just kind of financed the whole thing and made sure the school didn't burn down. Nancy now enjoys participating in a weekly ladies bible study group and trying to make sure I stay out of trouble. She also has a couple of really good girlfriends that she sees weekly to eat a meal with, see a movie, and just hang out. She now volunteers at the neighborhood elementary school library to help with some of the necessary chores.
My Job
I run a small office in Austin for a manufacturer's representative firm headquartered in San Antonio, Tx. Actually, my office is at home and I love it! I spend my day calling on mechanical engineer's so they will specify my products on commercial/industrial projects to be built, calling on and quoting my equipment to mechanical/plumbing contractors and then overseeing the proper installation and start-up of my equipment when the project is completed.
Dealing with professional people (engineers and business owners) and the mechanics in the field on a regular basis allows me to utilize my education as well as the mechanical skills I have learned along the way.
PS
I had not lived in the Bay Area since 1972 and had not attended a reunion until Sept 2006. It was an unforgettable weekend! A great big thank you to Pam Rodrigues and the organizing committee. But even more so, thanks to all of the wonderful Sunset alums for helping to make this such a special event in my life. We caught up with each other and after just a few minutes, it didn't seem possible that 35 years had passed. I really do miss y'all and look forward to the next opportunity to see everyone.
Until then, I wish y'all God's speed, protection and love.
