Fred's Story

Fred is from Waco, Texas. He grauduate from Waco High School in 1966 and later attended Baylor University (Economics, Finance) where he received a BBA and MS. He earned a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance at LSU in Baton Rouge, La. in 1977. He is currently Chair of the Dept. of Finance at University of Missouri-Kansas City where he also holds the Henry W. Bloch/Missouri Endowed Chair in Financial Services. He previously held the Carl W. Allendoerfer Chair in Banking and Finance. He has published dozens of scholarly and practitioner oriented articles on banking and finance related subjects. He served for nine years as editor of the Bank Board Letter as well as contributing editor of Bank News. He spent fifteen years on the Board of Directors of Samuel Rodgers Community Health Center including terms as chairman, vice chairman, chair of the finance committee and treasurer. The center has 140,000 patient encounters a year and served an inner city Kansas City population. Fred's interests include LSU Baseball, LSU Football, Baylor Athletics; Kansas City Royals Baseball and Kansas City Chiefs Football. pe, China and SE Asia. He has led students on study abroad since 1990 including about two dozen trips to London and Paris as well as many other European cities. He enjoys involving students in various financial competitions in the US and abroad. His favorite hobby is deepsea fishing where he can frequently be found offshore in the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico.
