Fred's Story
After Spalding Institute. I Joined the Navy for three plus years. While stationed as an electrician on a Destoyer was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in '65 and off the coast of Viet Nam in '67. Attended Western Illinois University '68 to '73. Worked as a Temp teacher for a year and a grade school for two. Tried to teach most of a school year in a remote Eskimo village in Alaska where I decided that I wasn't a teacher. Moved to Colorado mountains in 1978 and worked as an electrician for 8 years until the economy dropped. Moved to Alaska for a year and worked odd jobs for my brother-in-law, then on a Gas rig in Cook inlet for a few weeks. Moved to Hawaii...Expand for more
where I worked as an electrician for 30 years and learned to scuba dive and enjoyed the year-round golf. Now I'm retired in Snyder Village, Metamora, IL to be closer to a brother and a sister and her family.
My interests include retirement outings, golfing (in season now), watching sports, old movies, trips to see friends and relatives. Previously hiked 3 times down and up in the Grand Canyon as well as other mountain backpacking, hiking and camping trips. Also like to fish once in a while. Work and outdoor activities took a toll on my body as some friends agreed: "getting old sucks". Now I have a heart condition, three artificial joints and a fused ankle.
