Fred's Story

So let me address the "hair" business straight off...have had a lot of questions about that. You see, it was never about the hair in the first place. It was all about the expression of individuality - an understandable response to 9 years of repression and persecution over at St. Anne's before a mutual parting of the ways and moving full time over to WHS. Before the current look (almost 2 years now) I actually still sported a good 6-inch pony tail but got tired of it. My daughter challenged me to get an ear pierced when she did hers on her 12th birthday so, of course, I did. That led to shaving the head (first time) for that CIA look -- love it; quite hassle free. Then I painted my beard afro jet black. (I wanted blue but my daughter said jet black would be cooler. What do I know, I'm partially color blind anyway! LOL.) So for the rest of the particulars... Been living in Austin, TX for most of the past 20 years, but also have a home in LA and spend a lot of time there. Life is heavily work focused - everything still in the entertainment business, following my lifelong career adventure. Continue to do occasional radio and TV talent work, but mostly in support of my primary businesses. I am a principal in two companies: Co-Founder & President of WILD ABOUT MUSIC Art & Gift Galleries, a unique music lifestyle store and website based in Austin. Also am President/CEO of my 4th computer games company, Thriller New Media, also Austin-based, which focuses on military/spy/action online multiplayer games developed from original books and, eventually, made into film projects. On the personal side, I have a wonderful life and business partner in Shelley Meyer who runs the day-to-day operations of Wild About Music. I have a terrific son who is 26 and a college grad with a poly-sci degree looking for a career in politics or government. And an amazing 14-year-old daughter who came into our lives from South Korea as a baby who is about ...Expand for more
to head for high school (and Daddio is crapping recalling his WHS years!). Rarely ever get to Detroit burbs these days, except the occasional wedding or funeral. Hardly know anyone there anymore except my CPA! I believe my brother, Conrad, still lives there in the area but haven't heard from him in ages. My sister, Maggie, has lived in Florida most of the past 20 years. During mid-June 09, spent a great couple days hanging out with dear friend, Tom Schwarz, who stayed with us in LA while visiting SoCal from his longtime home in Southern Oregon. We rode bicycles for over 30 miles round-trip along the ocean shore up through Venice and Santa Monica while catching up...a mile for every year. The next day we checked out the new Grammy Museum for some amazing music time trippin', followed by rockin' out with Todd Rundgren in the (relatively) intimate Club Nokia at L.A. Live. Todd and his kickass played full-on for 2-1/2 hours and really brought back the memories of the Grande, Eastown and Birmingham Palladium where we sepnt more than a little time, not to mention Goose Lake Festival and our own neighborhood Chatterbox club in the Green Acres Shopping Center where we first saw (and got to hang with for many rehearsals) Alice Cooper, before they broke big with the song 18. Man, Detroit rock music was in its prime during our high school years! Always happy to hear from someone from the old 'hood. Still keep in touch with a couple folks from those days but they, too, live far far away. It was good to visit with some of y'all at a reunion some 10 years or so ago. Was hoping to connect with folks via Facebook -- which is FREE -- rather than this antiquated social networking service that bilks you into membership in order to do even basic communication. But, for reasons I haven't figured out yet, our high school is not one of the listed choices on FB. Still, if you have a FB page, we can all communicate there much more easily. Cheers!
