Fred's Story
After graduation. I finished my education at Vanderbilt University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have spent most of my working career dealing with polymer processing in the manufacturing sector, specifically in the development of electrical & electronic wiring components, for which I hold several patents.
Until recently, I was the Chief Engineer of Panduit Corporation's Wiring Accessories Division, for whom I worked for almost 28 years. During my career I traveled worldwide supervising multiple manufacturing operations in Europe, Southeast Asia, Central America and China. I have now handed over those responsibilities to a younger protege, and finally retired. After retirement I served on the Executive Advisory Board at Georgia Tech for six yesrs, as we as volunteering as a judge for the Georgia State Science Fair.
Married to Elizabeth Grace Jorgensen of Memphis Tennessee, with whom I had three children (Michael, Stephen & Lisa), two of which graduated from Georgia Tech. My second son is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Now we are blessed with three grandchildren.
We have resided in East Cobb County since 1979 (just across the Chattahoochee from our old high school, which by the way, is no more). Since retiring, we have become active World...Expand for more
travelers with multiple trips to Hawaii, throughout Europe, Scandinavia and the Caribbean islands. We even managed to visit Saint Petersburg, Russia where we enjoyed a performance of Swan Lake. We particularly have enjoyed our various river cruises throughout Europe, cruising on the Rhine to the Danube from Amsterdam to Budapest. In addition to the culture, food and scenery, our interests while traveling include the local history, art museums, architecture, and whenever available, a tour of the local vineyards, Last year while in the West Indies, I had the chance to fulfill a bucket list item. Since I grew up racing one design sailboats at the Atlanta Yacht Club, I was afforded the chance to skipper the 12-meter yacht "Stars & Stripes" in a race against a Canadian contender. My craft was the same 12-meter yacht which Dennis Conner sailed to win the America's Cup against Australia back in 1987. For me as a sailor, this was truly the thrill of a lifetime.
P.S. we won the race!
My current interests include boating, scuba diving, sports cars & motorcycles. I enjoy working on them myself. I love to play golf though I've never managed to become very good at it. I also dabble in woodworking, both restoring older pieces of furniture, and building new ones. Life is good!
