Fredie's Story

Life Fredie Davis, I. After completing my high school education at NE, I went to Mercy College of Detroit, I majored in Social Work and minored in English. I worked a few jobs in between mainly at Highland Appliance on Woodward in Highland Park. I had an accident back in 1980 March, which left me hearing impaired. I am married to a NE graduate also, Evelyn Williams, we have a son Fredie Ellis Davis,II. I also had two other children Tomika and Tyree, Tyree passed when he was 14, his mother also went to NE, her name is Tezella Washington, my daughter Tomika's mother also went to NE, her name is Glenda Rose. I am working for the USPS at the present as a Flat Sorter Machine Operator/Clerk out in Pontiac, Michigan, I have been there since January 1998. My wife is a RN whom has been in the Nursing field since 1978. I was a basketball player back in the day I played ball at the Boys Club and Jr. Varsity at Mercy College of Detroit. We won numerous of Trophies at the Boys Club, my most memorable Championship was at St. Cecelia, we won the championship and were sent to Chicago to represent Detroit. We had the best coach in the league the late (Charles Ray Smith) Smitty, God bless him he taught us how to win and it carried over into our daily lives much respect to Smitty coming from ME. Quite a few of my former Boys club teamates went to NE, Herman (Boo Boo) Glenn, Jerome (Bo) Edge, Brucie (Feet) Lawrence, Marvin Tookes (Bilal Muhameed), Wilbert (Bud) Tookes, Roy Lawrence and my brothers Bruce and Sammy, I have a lot of good old memories of playing ball at the Boys Club, Mercy and NE 8th hour Gym class. We never lost too many games in our gym class at NE, My teamates were usually Ulysses (Red) Johnson, Alexander Parks, Ivory Banks & Willie Trotter. I am a Trustee at Leland Missionary Baptist Church. My brothers and sister also went to NE, Sammy Davis, Jr my older brother, Bruce Davis my younger brother and Janice Davis my lil sister....God bless you... School Hi, Fredie Davis,I....my favorite teachers were Mr. Galaso the tailoring teacher and Smitty our Physical Education instructor. My biggest crush was on Tezella Washington, and after High School we did get together and had a loving and beautiful relationship and out of that union 1 son was born. Tyree (Fatboy) Washington. He passed away when he was 14 but he is forever in our hearts. I wa...Expand for more
s happiest at NE when I was in Tailoring and my 8th hour PE class. I made a lot of sport coats and suits for the faculty at NE especially coach Smitty. My 8th hour gym class was all good we never lost too many basketball games w/the team I was always on RED Johnson, Alexander Parks, Ivory Banks and Willie Trotter. NE, has a special place in my heart I try to attend every reunion in the Park each summer for there are so many people out there to kick it w/about old times and just to say hey to and good to see you. The Big NE there was no place like it....God bless you...... College Fredie Davis,I aka Clever D. I have very fond memories of my days at Mercy College. I am still in contact w/a few of my buddies after all these years that have passed. At Mercy I saw some of the best & happier days Of my life, I received a Education and some good old memories and some truly dear friends. I didn't have a roommate but I had a good time in the dorm, my room was the last room at the end of the hall it was quite cold down there in the winter. I use to work in the cafeteria and I use to bring juices from work and set them on the outside on my window sill, they stay really cold in the winter, it was really cold on that corner of the dorm. I played Jr. Varsity basketball at Mercy w/a few of my old neighborhood boys Marvin Tookes (Bilal Muhammeed) and James Edge. I had so much fun at Mercy w/all the people I met. To name a few Luther McCain, Greg (Smoke) Williams, Andre Gaines, Robert Vandiver, Arthur Moore, James Edge, James Anderson, James Millen, Marvin Tookes, Keith Love, Fred Marshall, the late Thomas (Buddy) Belford, the late Keith (Hoofer) Williams, Derrick Palm, Dennis Edmonds, Ed Davis, Joe Hall, Henry and Alexander Agee, Al Stores, Sharmin Smith, Shelley Foy, Gwen Williams, (Peanut), Leslie Reed & Marvin Nunn this is just to name a few but one person in my era everybody would remember is Macklin Smith. My favorite teachers were Ms. Esby and Donald Softley. Donald went to school w/us got his degrees and came back to teach. We had a lot of very educated brothers that came out of Mercy. I won't forget to speak about my good friend Sister-Girl (Velma Smith)much love to her. She use to do all sorts of things for me and kept me in check because I was sort of wild and adventurous(smiling). Mercy college those were the days.....God bless you.....
