Fredric's Story
College
Attended Yankto College in Yankton SD for one year prior to entering the Air Force. Qualified for a commissioning program and finished my Bachelor's degree at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Entered a Master's program with South Illinois University in Scott AFB Ill, and transferred to a System's Management program with University of Southern California in Tachikawa, Japan. Was selected for and completed the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, Was selected for and attend the Syracuse Maxwell School and John Hopkins SAIS National Security Studies Program and completed in 1998 at Syracuse University. Post high school education was not a "recreational" activity.
Workplace
Enlisted in the AF in 1957 and worked as an airborne communications intelligence operative, Military Training Instructor (MTI) and radio/television announcer; commissioned in 1968 and worked in the personnel/human resources field until retirement in 1991. US-Japan Joint Committee and then as a Senior International Relations Advisor until 1998. Retired from civil service in Jan 2007 after serving 9 years as the Director of Total Force Manpower and Personnel for the Commander US Naval Forces, FarEast. Work places included Texas, Mississippi, ALaska, Hawaii, Kansas, New York, Alabama, Illinois, Japan, Viet Nam, Crete, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, British Indian Ocean Territories, among others.
Parttime employment from 61 included inter alia, burlesque comic, nightclub singer, truck driver, airport security supervisor, Asst Dean of students, apprentice surveyor, filling station attendant, college instructor.
Married my Japanese wife in 1961. Have a Chinese son presently serving in the US Army, and a Korean daughter presently the CEO of a marketing firm in New York City, and a grandson who is the light of my life. Past Grand Master Freemasons in Japan 1999, and have served on the Board of Governors for the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Honolulu since 2007. It's been a hell of a ride.
