Gabriel's Story

I left Sanger in 1967, one year before I was due to graduate from Sanger High School. I ended up graduating from Santa Paula High School, in Santa Paula, California in 1968. I went to Ventura College and earned my Police Science AA degree. In April of 1969, I began a career in law enforcement. I retired after serving 34 years as a police officer/Deputy Sheriff. My career was full and satisfying. Luckily I never had to take anyone's life, although I did save a few (lives)over the years. I met my wife in 1972, and we were married in 1974. We never had any children. Our fairytale marriage is still going strong. We celebrated our 25th and 30th anniversaries in Hawaii. We're planning a return trip to Hawaii to celebrate our 35th this year(2009). My wife retired from the fire service in late 2004. Our retirement benefits gave us a comfortable living in Southern California, however, we decided to venture into a new world in 2005,and moved to Northern California. We still travel a bit, but have slowed down since 9-11. We now live in a very nice country home. We love our home theatre, enjoy renting movies, gardening, working in our yard, landscaping, reading, and generally enjoying our quiet country home without neighbors. We especially like the wildlife we see around our home every day. We enjoy hiking, outdoor photography and astronomy. We've also been enjoying the new RedHawk Casino which opened in December '08. It's just a few minutes drive from our home. I think of my classmates from Sanger High School from time to time, and wonder how everyone is doing. Technically I didn't graduate from Sanger High School, however my heart was with my Sanger High School classmates on the evening of my 1968 graduation in Santa Paula. Like many of us, I'll be turning the big six oh! this year. How quickly time passes....Expand for more
We must remember to enjoy each day as it comes. Choose to be happy in spite of what life may bring our way. May only good things come to you. ________________________________________ It's July-21-2013, and the big 6 Oh is three years behind me. In October, I'll turn 64. There have been changes in my life lately. That nice country home in Placerville is no longer. We sold it in March. We're having a new home being built in El Dorado Hills, CA. It's in a good location close to doctors, restaurants, the movie theater, shopping malls, etc.etc., It has nice views, and a very small yard. I'm getting old, and my knees were giving me problems in Placerville. I can no longer keep up with the maintenance requirements of a country home on 3 acres. My liver is also showing signs of my age. They say I'll most likely be needing a transplant sometime down the road. I have frequent appointments, tests, and procedures being done to me in order to keep track of my liver's condition. At least now I'll be living much closer to my doctors and specialists. We're looking forward to moving into our new home in a couple months. Right now we're living with my father-in-law in very tight quarters (also in El Dorado Hills, CA). All our stuff is spread out into four separate storage units, so we're mostly living out of boxes and suitcases. We're doing our best to be patient and wait for the big move in late August or early September. We'd like to be settled by the time the holidays come around this year. We'll see. If the weather holds out, I'll start the new landscaping as soon as the inside of our house is all squared away. Well, this is my update for now. If you want to learn more about me or see tons of photos, find me on Facebook ... Gabriel D. Viveros Until my next update .... this is Gabe signing off. Take care.

Our garden is in full bloom.
Looking up from Ke e' Beach.
Chickens, roosters, and little chickies are all over Kauai. Ke e' Beach is no exception.
The drive home from our trip to Ke e' Beach yesterday (Thursday) was a long one, but we made it back in time to catch this nice sunset.
This morning (Friday) we encountered this little Hawaiian monk seal resting beneath a tree across the street from our resort. Today, we plan to stay in. Maybe we'll enjoy one of the Jacuzzis and/or one of the pools.
A nice view of Hanalei Bay.
