Gabriel's Story

Life What have I been up to since I left Freer High School??? Well, after I left school I attended Texas A&M - Kingsville until '99 as a Political Science major. I left to College Station so that I can start pre-law. in 2000 I moved to Houston and became an operations supervisor for Kelsey-Seybold Clinics. I went on to become a private consultant for Baylor College of Medicine, U.T., M.D. Anderson, and Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Since 2004 I have now moved on and am settling down (if you could say that) and have been managing a company called Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine Consultants. where I do everything from IT systems maintenance & support to business office management to physician education to little things such as the designing of our logo. You name it, I do it all. This organization, I can proudly say, has grown exponentially as I came on to start the practice in '04 and next fiscal year we are expected to top 8 million in revenue. If you want to check out our website it is houstonlungdocs dot com . What else... oh, I was also accepted into MENSA. For those that are unaware, this is a non-political organization reserved for people who retain an IQ in the top 2% of the population as I have a 142 IQ. Not bragging, just stating the facts. Anyways, I'd love to catch up with anyone wanting to do the same as I miss each and every one of you. I hope that you are all doing well, regardless of how I came across in school. Not many of you all no this, with the exception of Jessica (we are divorced by the way), but when I moved to Freer in '95 I had been kicked out of three different schools and was at one point living on the street for about four months at one time. My grandmother, of all people, convinced me to move in with her just so I could have a place to stay and work (at Dairy Queen of all plac...Expand for more
es). This was a very humbling experience for me. When I went back to school, it was a shock to everyone and no one really thought I would take it seriously. And while there were times I just wanted to give up, I kept saying to myself that I knew I was capable of more. Quite honestly, the only one who really kept me going was Mrs. Blanton. You see, my father owned a somewhat successful oil-drilling business in Freer in the 50's and 60's and this business, after he died in '76, the same year I was born, was sold to Shell Oil. Well, my dad was considered to be one of the more prominent men in Freer at that time. Mrs. Blanton had even taught some of the children from my dad's first marriage, my half-brothers. If anyone remebers the Honors English class with me during the fall of '95, she and I really had it out one day. She met with me after class and told me how she expected so much more from me and that she felt disappointed in my behavior. That stung! I don't know why, but it did. Well, that converstation has kept me going ever since. Anyways, I don't want to ramble on about my life back then; much less most people wouldn't understand my life back then anyhow. Maybe it's just because i'm 30 now and i'm regretting all the mistakes I made back then. It just goes to show you that if you have children please motivate them to do well in school and if your child tells you they are bored at school, this doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad student. They may not be sufficiently challenged at the school they are in. This happened with both my sister and I. Anyhow, please drop me a line at work if you get an opportunity at gnugent at houstonlungdocs dot com or at home at gabenugent at sbcglobal dot net if you want to catch up. mobile is 832,814,2500.
