Gail's Story
Workplace
I started out working in retail while in high school at Charles A. Stevens & CO. Was there for approximately 10 years. Before the store closed, I was encouraged to go back to school which I did. I attended Robert Morris College (this was before they offered degrees and way before Microsoft was ever heard of). After graduating with a Secretarial certificate I was on my way to hopefully a better life. I was hired by the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in 1986 and worked there for 20 years in a cube until 1996. Got married in 1990 and divorced 4 years later, no children resulted from this marriage. I did various jobs in several departments which I really enjoyed. I've seen them come and go, from the President to the mail room clerk. I was roking for KDA (Kitchen Distributors of America) and I have my first office working as an assistant to 2 designers. It was very challenging and I've learning alot about designing kitchens and baths, but the people were very nice, we were like a small family. Where at my last job we were like a great big extended family. I miss my old job and keep in touch with my old work mates, we get together for lunch when I have time off. But, it was time to move on and God put me exactly where he wanted me to be and I'm eternally grateful. I had switched locations from the Chicago area to Broadview, IL which is much further than I was before. It's taken some getting used to but I'm sure I can make it work. Have been back and forth with KDA for over a year but now they have closed their doors as of 4/10/08. Looking for new opportunities in the job market and am sure something will come around soon. As of September 24, 2009 I started working as an Assistant Property Manager at a housing complex. It's challenging learning to deal with new people and actually bei...Expand for more
ng an assistant to the supervisor. I enjoy going to work each morning and don't have to travel 2 hours each way. That's totally a blessing. I'm still single and do enjoy my singleness. Met a really nice guy and we've remained friends for over a year. Lost my last cat last year in May so I don't have any pets, maybe sometime this year. We'll see. In spite of the downturn in the economy, God is still on the throne and is large and in charge. More to come later......
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Steven Craig, because we sent to prom together..
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Toni McCloud, because she was the funniest person I knew..
My best friend would tell you I'm thoughtful, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as funny.
I share my home with my nephew, which I find fun..
The nephew has moved on and now I'm alone again (Halleluja). Nothing like coming home being able to do what you want to do when you want to. Don't get me wrong, I totally miss him but It's been years since I was able to just do nothing or not worry about what to feed someone else. I can be totally selfish at least for a while.
Am back in the housing business again as of May 2011 working for East Lake Management. Sharing my home with another nephew (again) but will be alone in a couple of weeks and am putting out the Inn is closed sign.lol Don't need any more room mates unless we share the same last name and a ring. I'm looking forward to the next class reunion in a couple of years. I'm happy with my life so far and as I get older I can't wait to retire somewhere hopefully warm. My best friend moved to Florida so that may be an option. My sister lives in Vegas so that's another option. Need warm weather for these old achy bones of mine.
