Gail's Story

Well, like all of you I finally grew up. It took me a little longer, but I think I made it. So, this is a little about me. After graduation (and a little bit of a wild stint), I married my one true love and moved to Northern California. I had two boys. After they started school, I went back to school to become a teacher (That's one thing in high school that I absolutely swore I'd never be. But then life played a trick on me.). I've taught all grades from 4th through high school. I went back to school for a masters in education and a reading specialist certification. gain for a doctorate in special education with an emphasis in reading. I've been a professor at several colleges and worked with the Maryland State Department of Education (That was really cool.). But my life and home is on the west coast. So, now I teach at a college in Washington state. I teach teachers and consult across the U.S. about reading interventions. I help set up large scale reading implementations for children with disabilities and children at risk for school failure. I wonder sometimes, how did I get here, especially fromthere. It doesn't seem possible from the perspective of that girl who didn't know her way so long ago.
