Gail's Story

2/5/2012.....hello again..... just a note from oregon...it is lovely here this winter...weird, really weird, but lovely...makes me wonder what is coming....I am going to try to add some photos from last year when we had snow...just lovely....on .a said note we had to put down our sweet little skipper dog...poor baby had so much to deal with anyway, going blind slowly, had benign growths throuout his little body, and in his lungs, but you would never have known it....he began having coughing spells, so took little guy to the vet and the sonogram show that he was riddled with cancer...we tried to make him as comfortable as possible and he did well until until he could not hold anything down any more and i knew it was time...Jim of course could not stay with me....he never wanted another dog since we had our little girl Nikki put down several years ago....but I stayed and gave him as many kisses as I could until he closed his eyes.....Hope I can go as peaceful as that..(that will never happen)..bless his little heart...NO MORE DOGS...I have to agree with Jim this time around...but how rich our lives have been having these precious little guys in it.......yesterday I looked out the window and saw 5 fatter than fat turkey girls...I am sure this is an appropriate name for turkey girls but I don't know what it is...any way, they were awesome...big girls just passing through...and of course my camera would not work for me....I have a photo I will put on if i get the photo stuff figured out again....it is a little buck, forked horn, not very old I think with 3 legs.....We have lots of folks here that do not believe in rules and regs when it comes to hunting season...I get so mad......rules are rules people!!! there, I fee better...Jim and I should be out fishing with the weather as nice as it is...need to get our licenses though...the cold still bites even when the sun is out ....I got picked for grand jury which will end soon...much more interesting that regular jury duty...puttin the bad guys away!!!! Well, will try to get some more pics on and will visit again , with oneof me holding up a big old fish...ya right....I don't mind not catching anything...just being out for a day on the river is enough.....bye for now, Gail.............PS medicine I am taking is doing it's job...I feel great!!! 2/29/2011 ...Hello out there.....thought I would catch you up on my life ....Jim and I moved to Oregon 7 months ago....Dad passed last Feb. I hope he is at peace finally.....Jim and I adopted his dog Skipper.....after losing Nik, we decided never to have another. it hurts too much to lose them....but Skip was hard to resist ...those big brown eyes said it all...".Please love me" I'll be a good dog!! Jim said no...I cried....and we took skip in.....he owns us now............I developed a cough about 8 months before we moved...in addition to a couple of pneumonias and over all tiredness. I was sure I had lung cancer...tested proved that I didn't..however, the cough continued....I was finally referred to a pulmonary specialist up here who found my problem.....I have Alpha 1 Antitripsin deficiency...a genetic disorder, ....I lack the enzyme in white blood cells to fight pneumonias, copd, emphysema,etc.......so now I have an infusion weekly of the enzyme and should lead a fairly normal life. My mother dying at the age of 51 makes sense now. I am feeling much better and thank God and modern medicine every day.....looking forward to fishing soon...I am a weeny and dislike fishing in the rain , so will have to wait a spell. Bye for now, Gail..... 9/10/09...new pic at the top -- Granny Gail and Grandpa Jim with newest grandbaby boy Phoenix, last Jan...what a sweetie... 8/24/09..enough with the updates, right????thought something needed some clarification......as previously noted by my first story, there was a man standing by me and he was my husband......I now have another man with me in the photo , however he is sitting on my lap this time, an is a very TINY man....hello to Kieran McNulty....bitty grandson...phew...hope that clears up any confusion .....leaving to go back home ......Leaving my dad in capable hands, with folks who will keep me apprised of his situation...I SO need a camping/fishing/drinking couple of weeks right off the bat...talk to you later...this updating is habit forming I think....G 06/09...update..living with my father in Oregon due to some medical issues he had, for now...Jim and I will likely relocate here in the future...it is very beautiful ...reunion was awesome...I guess the committee is coming up with a hum-dinger of another in 5 years.....note to reunion committee...I will definately get new address and phone number to you before you send out the invites.....har, har.....miss you guys...gail 10/08 hello...Well, never thought I would be doing anything like this, but here I am..I think it actually might be kind of fun..I was finally able to round up a recent pic..usually I am the one behind the camera , Amanda my youngest daughter came through for me... The gentleman standing by me is my husband of 26 years, Jimmie Ray Martin, RB High Class of 63. After my divorce from first husband, in 1982 I asked Jim to marry me (you think I'm kidding) and he actually said yes.....Between the two of us we have 5 children...my 3 girls Angela, Tina, and Amanda and Jim's ...Expand for more
2 boys Shawn and Clint. So , what have the kids been up to? Making lots of Grandkids for us..we are up to 8 and expecting a little boy in January. I LOVE being a Granny!!!!!!!So we have husband, kids and Grandkids squared away, so what else can I tell you...I have worked at various jobs since high school....Receptionist for the Optometrist in Red Bluff...Moved to Elk Creek for two years after marrying (big mistake, my mom actually asked if I wanted to slip out the back door at my wedding..sheesh)... moved to Chico where I worked at the Cohasset Medical Group doing transcribing...Then another move back to Red Bluff, where I was a stay at home mom, enjoyed being on a womens city league soft ball team (or 3) and bowled on two leagues as well....Then, after fabulous divorce from above mentioned person, I went to work at the Auto Club in Red Bluff for 10 years. Jim changed careers in 1989 working for the state and we moved to the coast for 4 years..I worked at a Rural Health Clinic managed the billing dept, enjoyed the work -- I mean seriously, who wouldn't like driving home and stopping by the ocean , catching a glimpse of whales now and then..However the weather did royally suck..my favorite was 31 days of continuous rain..cripes.....Jim transferred to the other side of the state(beautiful sage and sand, which I did come to love) in 1995 (in the mean time, the girls are leaving right and left. Angie, the oldest married, after graduating from BJU, Tina moved to Arcata with friends, went to college of the redwoods and ultimately met her mr. right, and Amanda wanted to go to Brazil in the exchange program after High School (who wouldn't??? sheesh......) She came home and moved to San Luis Obispo, meeting her beloved..there is a theme in here somewhere.......So Jim and I were finally ALONE AT LAST...anyway, I digress from our moves...NO, didn't go back to work....I cried for days that the horrible man I married wouldn't let me work any longer...I'm joking people.....LOVED IT......joined a bowling league to find some buddies...Jim and I were 90 mins. away from Reno and 30 minutes away from a lake where we would go boating and fish ...very beautiful and very relaxing....our other interests are camping and hunting..I want to post a picture of my deer I got 2 or 3 years ago, but I don't want to gross anybody out...The hunting and fishing stuff has been a huge part of my life since Jim...I grew up in a family where my dad either fished for food, shot it out of the sky, or out of the woods..I was target practicing and learning gun etiquette when I was 7 or 8.I had no idea how much I missed all of that part of my life...it's actually in my DNA..my grandmother would haul in Steelhead bigger than she was and I passed it on to my girls..well, 2 out of 3 anyway........for my 50th birthday I asked Jim for a fly rod...after 7 years, I am getting better...it is truly a passion of mine...another photo I will add when I find it....okay, so , now we are up to the point where Jim has decided to retire and did so Dec '07....We now reside in the beautiful Sacramento Valley again...our huge project right now is remodeling his parents home which was built in 1960..OMG...have just finished the kitchen....much, much, much, more to do......little hard for me to get used to neighborhood living again .... it's never boring , thats for sure.....Oh, I guess for you out there that knew my family might want to know what is going on with them..my mom passed in 1977, my dad (Charlie) is 85 and lives in Southern Oregon (yes, he is still a crabby old faaar , er, curmudgeon ) ...Sandy M. liked him though...they enjoyed a couple of fine cigars one time as I recall....My brother Alan is , actually I don't know where he is which is how he wanted it....I hope he is well....my sister , Linda, lives next door to my dad and keeps an eye on him for me...Well, does that cover everything??? If not, just let me know....I am actually looking forward to the reunion next year...I am on the committee this time, and I think it will be fun......bye for now...and hope to see you 69'ers this year ....Gail APRIL 1ST 2013.....hello have been fighting with my computer for a few months, and finally took it in to shop and was fixed in no time... the news around here right now is good news for those of you that know my husband Jim Martin....he has been putting off having an aortic valve replacement for some time, and decided it was time....had the surgery the 31st of Jan (if memory serves..)is doing really well. had one of the new bovine tissue valves . he goes to rehab twice a week to work out...enjoys that .......also...I thinks somewhere in the previous postings, we were never going to get another doG EVER...so around christmas Jim decided I needed a dog and were going to go to the shelter to get one...but it was right when we were heading to RB for the holiday....so when I came home, I got on craigs list and found a new love....she is 5 years old.. .. PAPILLON AND CHIUAHUA MIX....was left out in the rain with 3 others before a do gooder found her IN A BOX and put them all on craigs list...she was the last one left and was here in grants pass so we went to see her and has been with us since...just a cutie...will have to post a pic if I can remember how to do it...the brain which wasn't the best anyway is slowing down....TALK TO YA LATER...GAIL
