Gail's Story

2018: Published "ROSIE BIRD'S GUIDE TO SMALL EXOTIC BIRDS" by Gail A. Lewis... I have a large following on You Tube videos as Rosie Bird and received many requests for a book about them. It's now available from Amazon or Barnes & Noble or other booksellers. Love raising small exotic birds, especially Bourke Parakeets (Pinks, Rosies, Lutinos, Creams, Normals and more!) On Aug. 8, 2015 my first novel was PUBLISHED! Please read CAST ME NOT AWAY by Zara Heritage (my pseudonym). Just as Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin helped end slavery, may CAST ME NOT AWAY help stop abortions. Available in PRINT or as an eBOOK in most countries thru Amazon.com. Here is a link for the USA: Go to Amazon Books and enter Zara Heritage. Thank you for reading and sharing. 5-star reviews very much appreciated. Gail's schools include Norwalk High School, Cerritos College, Norwalk, CA, then Univ. of San Francisco earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982. Married Ed Lewis in 1986 and gained three stepchildren. Have two adult children of my own, a daughter and son. All five are married, providing 7 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. Has lived in Triangle, Virginia; Jacksonville, North Carolina; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and Carlsbad, CA. Been to Japan and France. Made several trips across the USA. An Oregon resident since 1984. Bought 16 acres of forest in 1999, built own home andmoved into it January 1, 2001. Have since lived o...Expand for more
n a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean backed up to forest with assorted wildlife. Husband is writer, E.G. Lewis, who has written nine books. His best are the "Seeds of Christianity" series of four novels. He has kept them historically accurate and made them highly entertaining. Available in print, eBook or Audible. Once raised Lhasa Apso dogs. Currently raise and sell Rosy Bourke Parakeets, and some other small exotic birds. Has a blog about them at: "The Splendid Bourke Bird Blog" on BlogSpot. Classmates doesn't allow any website link. In 2010 Gail converted to Catholicism and says, "it's been wonderful!" She had been Lutheran and then Episcopalian and says she's been blessed to climb ever closer to Heaven and our Blessed Lord. Currently has a dog, a cat and many pairs of small exotic birds, plus various baby birds being raised and sold. Deer are numerous with daily visits from does and fawns. Many other assorted wildlife also pass through, including bald eagles, owls, hawks, band tailed pigeons, raccoons, porcupines, gold finches and an occasional bear. Haven't seen a cougar, however, have heard one scream twice in the last 15 years. The Norwalk High School annual copies from 1961, 62, 63 and 64 offered/provided on Classmates come from Gail Husband. Gail Husband Lewis offered them to copy in exchange for Amazon.com gift certificates. They were returned in good condition. Smiles. PEACE & BLESSINGS!

Quite a set-up they have. Lots of others do it at sinks outside near the docks, but these guys do it indoors. Price is the same from everyone who filets them. It's attached to the back of a fish market.
A picture of both of them fileting our fish. They charge $4 a fish, but it's worth it!
These are our fish too. About $2.50 per lb everywhere, but got it for $2.25 by buying 100 lbs. It's early in the season and the tuna are smaller than they will be later. They call them "peanuts."
Ed talking with a fisherman. His tuna were caught last week and on ice. We didn't buy from him.
One of the guys fileting our 100 lbs. of tuna. Nice guy. The tuna will run into October, so we may go back at the end of the season when the fish are bigger, then smoke the filets instead of canning them. Have a teriyaki re
Having the fish we bought fileted. Caught Wednesday, purchased Thursday for our freezer, and canned Friday. When we were younger we might have done it the same day, but we'd already had a busy day Thursday.
Lots of piers and many fishermen selling tuna from their boats.
Gorgeous day in Charleston, west of Coos Bay, Oregon.
