Galen's Story

Having been divorced 11 years I recently remarried a wonderful woman just last August the 15th, 2008. (Truly the love of my life) Her name is Elizabeth Ann. We had 5 beautiful children between us and we have 1 wonderful grandson his name is Adrian. I have included a photo of him and "Danny". We have two dogs, a miniature poodle (we adopted) Liz named him Melvin and we have my little "Danny" a black and white (I'm not shitting you) Shiatsu. They are great company and always glad to see me when I come home from work. I think they like me because I always share my bacon with them. They like goat cheese, too. I have worked in many different places, states and on many different projects thru out the years, as an IBEW Electrician, and as an Electrical Construction Company owner (14 years) I am currently a project manager for a great company and I am working in Oklahoma at present. I have been here since last April and travel back and forth between home and work. I estimate I will be in Tulsa until the end of July, maybe mid August. I hope to keep working a few more years, with 37 years in the trade, it would probably be best to stick with what I know. Like they say it's hard to teach an old dog. One of my favorite things to do is visit with old friends, we can never have enough friends, I am so fortunate to have kept up with so many thru the years and treasure each and everyone of you. Some I have stayed in good contact with and some are misplaced for now but, I think of each and every one of you often and pray all is well in everyone's life. I have lost both my brothers, my younger brother Wayne passed just this last January and I have missed him dearly. We lost our older brother 5 years ago and that is not easy either, Gerald and I had planned to retire together and put together a part time business. I guess what I am trying to say here is... if your parents are still with us and you don't visit with them often, if you aren't close to your siblings, or your children, for what ever reason you need to reconcile, because we never know when we will see them for the last time. It happens...memories are wonderful but not all that great when it's all you have. Bless you all my friends, I am looking forward to seeing as many as can at our 40th this September 25th, and 26th. in Chanute, coinciding with "Artist Alley Days". We will celebrate our reunion at the Elks on Friday and in the parade Saturday morning, the Country Club for supper on Saturday. I know everyone in our class has been notified of our plans but for anyone of the other classes that want to stop in are more than welcome, I am sure someone will remember you. I drove past old C H S this past Monday on the way to Tulsa...Expand for more
, there is only about 1/3 of it still standing, for those of you that don't know they are tearing it down and will relocate the Chanute City Pool in it's place. I guess everything changes doesn't it. I suppose, I wasn't surprised at it's destruction; I know it was an old building I think it was built new in 1927. My gosh, what will we look like at that age? (I hope no one takes a wrecking ball to me.) I was probably more curious of the way it was built and all of the steel beams and the mortar that held "just another brick in the wall". I circled the block twice to get a better look. That is when I realized it was more than just an old building of steel, concrete and dirty bricks. I circled once more and started remembering. I suppose it will be completely down as I travel home this week end and more than likely hauled away in a couple of weeks. To say I wasn't saddened is not true, there is so much history, triumph and yes, heart break for some. Those hallways that are empty now and even gone tomorrow, are still filled with the laughter, the cries, the hello's and the good byes we all spoke. The spirit of those of us that attended Chanute High School and have those memories will mingle with those now passed. They will forever linger on that property we knew as the 400 block of south Highland. We... everyone of us that went to school in that old building were the luckiest kids in the world. I never realized it then, I know most of you did but, it took me longer to mature. Now upon reflection; I realize we had the very best teachers and regardless of how you remember them; they really did care about each and every one of us. "Peeps", "Olivia", "Mr. Bacus", "Mr. Rickert", "Mr. Bob Stone" "COACH WOODS", Mr. Carter, Homer Moody (my all time hero, probably one of the most influential men in my life next to my Dad.) Mr. Dillman always a favorite. Lots more too numerous to mention. Gary Church a great principle. I know those "dump" trucks hired to haul away the debris from our old school do not carry away with them the loads of love, the truck loads of memories; of the hard working people that made it a school, 40 years gives us time to reflect and also gives us the experiences it takes in life to really appreciate what we had, what we learned and who we learned it from. All the truly decent people in our lives that taught us to be who we are now. Those are the experiences that caused me to drive around that old school just one more time to think about who I am; and, what made me the way I am. I am the product of wonderful parents, wonderful teachers, and wonderful friends all helping to shape my life. I hope to see you in Chanute this summer. Have a blessed day.
