Gary's Story
School
Elementary - we moved about a bunch, finally settled down in Eugene. First day of third grade my soon to be best friend thought I was a girl (a haircut would have been nice before starting school).
Junior High - a few brief years at Jefferson. For the most part very forgettable. Between my getting in trouble just because my older brother was a trouble maker, to my locker being super glued shut. I was glad to move on to High School.
High School at last! High school years were fun especially for someone with no plans for the future. IÂm grateful for all the wonderful people, students, teachers, and staff, that I was able to get to know while at Crow. As well as for the opportunity to try many different activities. At a larger school I would never have been able to be in drama and wrestling at the same time. These experiences provided me a plethora of wonderful memories.
College, the first time around, Western Oregon State College. For some reason college seemed easier than high school. Perhaps having the ability to stick to just the fun subjects (math and computer science, arenÂt these everyoneÂs favorites?), made the going easier.
College, the second time around, Defiance College. Talk about nervous, going back to school and ...Expand for more
sitting in classes with students 15 years or more younger. Writing papers for the Masters program when I havenÂt written a paper in 16 or more years. Well, IÂve managed to get one year of the program finished, and am starting on the second year (Fall 2004). Sometimes I wonder if I could get paid to just stay in college. It seems so much easier than working a full time job.
Workplace
2005 - 2009: Swanton High School Math Teacher.
2009 - 2010: Napoleon High School Math Teacher.
2010 - Present: Microsoft, Software Engineer Lead.
In 2005 I started teaching high school math, and in 2009 I moved to teaching Math at Napoleon High School. I taught Basic Math, PreAlgebra and Algebra II. If you are wondering what happened since last time you read when it said "Swanton High", well.... in July of '08 I heard about a potential opening at the same school my kids attend. I applied and got it! I get to have lunch with my daughter every day.
In 2010: I realized that I missed working in he computer industry. I called up friends from Microsoft wondering if any of them had an opening. I returned to Microsoft in June of 2010. I have since worked on System Center Service manger, Windows Phone Developer Services, and now the Marketplace Services
