Garry's Story
Two weeks after high school graduation my parents, my three sisters and I moved to Vista, CA. Four years later I met and married Rose; she was a friend of my sister. We have 4 children: Lee, 35; Stacy, 34; Rudy, 27; Tony, 24. We also have 6 grandchildren and another one due in Dec. The oldest grandson is 14 and the youngest grandson is 1 month new.
Always wanted to be a CHP officer, had a motorcycle accident, broke my leg, had to go to work for my dad. Did asphalt paving for over thirty years. In 1989 started Chaplaincy training at a local hospital while working in the paving business. For many years I hoped for the day to come for me to get out of paving and into fulltime chaplain work. day finally came in 2007. With further education and training I have been able to work as a Hospice Chaplain, Bereavement Coordinator, and Children's Grief & Traumatic Loss Counselor. Asphalt paving was challenging and rewarding when I was younger, I'm grateful though to be where I'm at now, at my age.
Rose and I have been "live on caretakers" for the past 5 years on the Rancho Guajome Adobe County Park in Vista. For twenty hours a week helping to maintain the Adobe home we live for free in our 400 sq.ft. Mobile Home which sits on the 100 acre plus property. In 1852 the owners received the 2,200 acres as a wedding gift. Lot's of history and a peaceful place to live, though not very roomy.
