Gary's Story
Life
Married to wonderful woman (Bev), have two married adult children with four grand children. Worked in nuclear power field since college graduation (UN-R). Lived in Oregon and Tennessee. Retired in summer of 2004.
School
High school was an enjoyable experience and prepared me for college (special thanks to Mr Reynolds, Mr Horn, and the Butterfields). I enjoyed making many friends and acquatainces. It is sad to see LVH now converted and rather run down. It was meaning to me to sit on the senior steps and look at the class cement plaques, remembering all the life the plaques represented. It was an exciting time for us all.
College
I remember being on a treadmill for 4 years with both work and school. I remember the financial pressure and searching for summer and school ...Expand for more
year employment. I remember the selective service draft pressure for Viet Nam. I remember much time spent in self-reflection. I remember the small circle of friends that raised my spirits and helped me get through it all (thanks). [earned a degree in physics]. It was a trying time, but I certainly felt that I was alive.
Workplace
Career was primarily as a nuclear reactor engineering supervisor at Trojan Nuclear plant in Oregon and Sequoyah Nuclear plants in Tennessee. Before that worked as startup physics testing engineer for Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, starting up several new nuclear plants. Obtained professional nuclear engineer licenses in two states. Obtained Shift Technical Advisor and Senior Reactor Operator certification at Trojan nuclear plant.
