Gary's Story
Life
Hi All:I went to Peace Memorial School on East 36th St., Then George L. Armstrong, Central High School for a year and to Hill Park once it opened. We used to live on East 32nd Street where my mother and father had a fish and chip shop. They had it for about eighteen years till they moved to East 44th St.
I married Eleanor Genge from Hill Park but sadly to say we divorced in 1970. I got remarried in 1972 to my current wife Eurwen(Welsh meaning Snow White) She came to Canada in 1967 and we met in the fall of 1970.
I now live in Dundas Ontario and am married. We have two cats, Joss and Joy. I play golf still and am a member of Dundas Valley Golf and Country Club. I am a member of a mixed dart league in Burlington and find it a lot of fun. I have been retired since 1991 and don't have much leisure time except for golf, darts, trips to Florida.
I always wanted to be a pro golfer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right as I was a golf professional for twelve years and loved it..
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Dave Webb, because he was my best friend and like a brother to me but we have not been in touch for the twenty years or so and I no longer know how to contact him....Expand for more
If I won $100 million, I'd give 25 million of it to charity, then spend the rest on my nephews and stepson,, a dream house, and travel and lastly give at least $15,000,000 to Dundas Valley Golf Club for all the enjoyment and friends I have made in the last 40 years.,.
My current age is 68. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be fond memories. I was so completely wrong..
My first job was at Chedoke Golf Club, where I got paid $15.00 to clean golf clubs. What I remember most about it is that I couldn't believe that many people could ever enjoy playing golf.. This was however the beginning of my desire to play golf and I have been hooked ever since. I have played in the Canadian Open, The British Amateur, the U. S. Amateur, Candadian Amateur as well as the senior divisions in these tournaments. I have scored 12 holes in one and at age 64-65-66-68 have shot my age at least three times a year. My wife took up golf at the age of 35 and became a single digit handicapper but she no longer plays now due to a bad back. We now travel to Florida at least twice if not three times during the winter just to get away from the snow. We are both very healthy but I am sad to say my sister passed away in September leaving me as the lone survivor of our family.
