Gary's Story

Someone out there wants to hear my story. Why,I don't know. But ,as I write this I'm starting to realize I'm a complicated GUY. I'm going to have to write my story in Chapters, maybe I'll become famous like Mick Foley ( Cactus Jack ) the Wrestler on WWE so dig in and hang on to your wallet.......CHAPTER 1...... I was born in St. Pauls Hospital, Vancouver and lived with my Parents in Vancouver until 5 yrs old where we moved to Coquitlam on a beautiful acreage at that time overlooking the now Portman Bridge. We had 3 acres of prime property on a hillside covered in cedarwoods which was great for Myself (5 yrs at the time we moved) and my sister Vicki who was 3 yrs my senior. Those cedars or forest as what we called it was the source of many an adventure with many a wild animal, and monsters with Indians on the warpath and stage holdups and aliens from outerspace that we defeated with ease from our Treeforts which could only be accessedby swinging up on a rope. This of course was tested for safety by my Mother wwho would test the knots and swing up on her own.I had mixed emotions about that of course not wanting the neighbours thinking me a mamas boy.But as I look back on it,me being a 1 & only son it was my fate to be a "mama's" boy at least til I was 15 yrs old.I started school at Millside School where I would spend the next 6 yrs .Also during those rugged years I was training to be a Cubscout, then Boyscout where I earned many patches on my sleeves and did a lot of Dib, dib, dibbing & Dob,dob, dobbing.Thats Scout talk. Graduating from Millside I moved on to spend 2 yrs at Mundy Road Elementary, at that time of my life my mother thought that I had an ear for music so my parents bought me an accordian and paid for lessons so I could become a great accordian musician.I became famous playing at several "Old Folks Homes" where everyone was tone deaf or sleeping.Mom was so proud of me.She thought I was a little Angel so she introduced me to the Minister of our Church and volunteered me to be an Altar Boy which I did carrying the cross and leading the choir on Sundays at our Church. all this was great training but it was not in me to be a namby-pamby so it was Montgomery School where my life took a change.....CHAPTER 2 ......Our family moved to Dawes Hill where there was a group of guys and girls all in the same age group as me.I soon became freinds with a few of them and this was my 1st experience with the Dawes Hill Gang. I started combing my hair in a ducktail with lots of Vitalis to hold it in place, we had some houseparties where I drank some beer and kissed my 1st girlfreind .I might have gone farther with her but I switched my drinksa to Lemon Gin and ended up puking my guts out .It was only a Mickey .I drank half & she drank half. She passed out and my cousin drove her home with me in the back seat throwing up out the window.I never did see her after that.We all went to Montgomery School and I thought I was cool and tough.I got in my first fist fight at that school a...Expand for more
nd I remember it to this day.I flirted with the wrong girl and a comment was made to me by the boyfriend which I being the member of a Gang could not ignore.So.....at Lunchtime the 2 of us with the whole school following marched down to the Ravine where everyone went to smoke during breaks. We stood toe to toe. I gave him a chance to apologize but he just laughed so just as I was winding up to vent my fury, he punched me in the mouth, knocking out 2 front teeth. I decided then to let him go whereas everybody went back to school and I went home to explain to mom what happened and she could rush me to the dentist.I didn't go back to school that week til I got mmy 2 front teeth replaced with false ones. That was a lesson for me that even though it was great to be a part of a gang I still had to answer to consequences on my own, so I need to stand alone in life and be tough or you get your teeth knocked out. After that I was pretty quiet around school......The next year I turned 16 yrs.old the same year my Mom & Dads hair turned grey.I got my Drivers Liscence" .Watch out World".....Chapter 3...... Boy oh Boy Grades 10 to 12 in the great old days through the eyes of a 16 yr. old .After I got over my shyness and found out what girls were all about, you couldn't get rid of me.As I cruised around in my green 1950 consul with the tiger under the hood ,the tail sticking out the gas tank, and the leapord skin seatcovers.Hanging out at the A&W on Brunette flirting with Dora & Rose the waitresses.Dora the older sister(18 Yrs.) would get a friend to pickup a case of beer for me & my buddies ,then me and Flem,& John would cruise around and act cool so the chicks would be impressed and fall at our feet.Too bad it didn't quite work out that way.I got drunk ,smashed uo the mean machine .got ticketed & grounded as I was only 16.But we were the talk of the school for a week.We were Kings. School Our gang, the JFG gang, the 3 coolest dudes going.John(alias Nostrils,Flemming-alias Fem-Head and me Gary-alias W.A.C.O.)If Flem got in trouble in class and had to stand in the corner I would raise my hand and say "I'm gonna stand in the corner also cause Fem-Heads my buddy" In Broughtons class while he showed slides to the class I was at the rear of the class by the door and taking the bolts out of the hinges for the door then sneak around to a seat.At the end of the class Broughton would open the door and bang the door would fall off.(haha what a Nerd) I was always writing little notes saying things like" Broughton eats worms" or Batman did this"and drop them into his jacket pocket. You know,I never got caught but for some reason I failed that class.....to be cont...... I always wanted to be a forest ranger when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were were wrong. In my 16th year at summer break I went to work with my Dad who was Superintenant of a construction co.He hired me as a laborer which paid Union wages and it was big bucks at that time.
