Linda's Story
School
After graduating from high school, I married Gary Bradley, a Canadian, from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada - where I moved and lived for 30+ years. We had 6 children in 7 years and I was able to stay home and look after them until they were all in school. I then went to work as a Research Steno in Human Justice/Social Work at the University of Regina and continued working there for 17 years. After the death of my father, whom I had traveled every month to Billings for 13 years to look after, we visited friends here in Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, and decided to move here. We have now been here 4 years and love it. I just started working part-time last November at Family Support Services as an Admin Asst. and love the work, screening and dealing with new families until the babies are 3 years old. ren are married with families and leading successful lives of their own. We now have 9 grandchildren - everyone of which is the joy of my life.
Workplace
While living in Canada and raising our family, I worked at the University of Regina for 17 years, part-time and full-time, taking summers off to be with my children. I had exceptionally good bosses and loved working there. Since moving to Hawaii, I worked a bit for temporary services so I could have time off to fly back to Canada to visit my children. I am now working at Family Support Services of West Hawaii and love the work because we are involved in helping families in need, which is a huge need here on the Big Island with its high rate of domestic abuse and people using "ice" (meth) and other drugs. It is very satisfying to know that we can make a difference in the life of our beautiful Hawaiian children.
