Little rock, AR

Gary's Story

Life Live in Small town USA in the Midwest,20 miles eats of Burlington Iowa in Illinois. Little town called Smithshire, Il:population around 50 or so.... on almost 10 acres. I have 2 kids: Josh, 23 and daughter Megan, 16 both live in Vilonia, Ar.We have 3 horses, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a worthless rabbit. Engaged to a wonderful woman, Sherry who has 2 very smart girls, Melissa 18 ( attends U of I),and Kim 23 ,graduated with honors Northwestern. I am in the telecom industry.I am now an old man at almost 48. My brother lives up here about 3 hours north. NW suburbs with wife of 23 years and a beautiful daughter Lauren 16. Kelly went to Dunbar and I of course LR Central. I dropped out of LR Central as he did Dunbar, with 6 weeks to graduate and joined Marines (Dec. '76-Dec '80) with brother and 3 other friends.Life has turned out very nice since LR Central days. Got out of the Marines and joined the roller coaster of life......and here I am. School A pair of English teachers at Henderson JR High on John Barrow Rd. They were a hoot! Why we had 2 teachers at the same time for one class is beyond me.I most certainly would do it all over again, however try to avoid just a few of the pot holes life has in its road. Funniest time was watching two buddies fight each other after school at Henderson. If you had a beef with someone you took it up with them at the creek. Everyone would attend of course. Eating hot dogs at the K Mart store by my house on Nob Hill Cove was the best. Ms Allen who worked there was always on the look out for me and my buds. We used to hide under the counter top displays in the store. Real fun at the time.Riding down the big hill on Nob Hill cove on a plastic Big Wheel was...Expand for more
always fun too!!! Was never into girls.....way too shy, I wasnt a geek but just a nerd perhaps. Workplace Work in the Telecomm Industry. Have been in for over 20+ Yrs. Wireless side of house.Started on ground floor working in No. Little Rock,Ar. as installation tech. Moved up to little company in '89 called Alltel.Gave them 10 years and then moved to Illinois to accept position as Telecom Instructor for Motorola. Caught in lay offs after 2 years, kicked around with odd ball jobs and ended up with major carrier in Illinois.Thats where Im at presently and hopefully will carry me the rest of the way into retirement. Military Served in the Marines, 1rst Battalion 3rd Marines, Kaneohe Bay Hawaii. A dam cook of all things! Joined with my brother and a couple of friends from Little Rock, the learning process had all but stopped for me at LR Central. Too many distractions, at least thats my story. Didnt seem to hinder Houston Nutt (Go Hogs !) Boot camp was tough, Hawaii was wonderful. Made alot of nice friends. Went to alot of different countries via US Navy...thanks for the ride guys ! You dont miss it until years later and your out here in the thick of life, working for a living and paying taxes. What a life. Getting out was quite a bummer. Great at first, you adjust to civilian life again, and get fat and happy like every other citizen of the U.S.Sometimes it feels like being on an assembly line.I try to stay in touch with the past alittle to keep focused on just how far Ive been, wow....it seems the pace picks up towards the last half of life, or is that just me? Could be looking at how old my kids are....wait ....those are my kids? 23 yr old boy and 16 yr old daughter....man that feels old.
