We lived in the College Area of San Diego where I was the president of our residents' association, the College View Estates Association and on the Board of the College Area Comminity Council and College Area Comminity Board. In late 2018 we moved to the Lakewood Village Area of Long Beach as my partner is now teaching at Long Beach City College.

For more than 25 years I worked as a union staff member, the last 16 years for the California Teachers Association in Orange, Fontana, La Mesa and last at the CTA San Diego Regional Resource Center in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. I retired in March of 2013 and then for 5 years was a part-time Emeritus Staff consultant for CTA.
Military
I served in the US Air Force for almost 4 years. I was stationed at Lackland AFB, Shepherd AFB and March AFB in the states and Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico as a Communications Center Specialist. I completed my BA in Elementary Education while stationed in Puerto Rico and did my student teaching on base. I applied for and received an early out to go back to Cal-State LA to get my California Teaching credential.
