Gary's Story
I've always worked full time. Afer MH I went to CCM for two years. I went to work as a parts manager of the Toyota dealership on Rt 10 in Denville, worked there all summer, I got laid off just as school started that fall, '69. In January of '70 I got a job at McWilliams Forge in Rockaway. I was the light off Engineer, midnight shift. I loved it, school full time, work full time, plenty of money, work paid for a lot of school. I never got a degree, too much fun on the schedule! I spent 6+ years at McWilliams, riding my motorcycle, lots of great vacations. I went to a couple of Tech schools, to get my NJ Engineering licenses, got my third one in 1975.
I've always dated very nice / sweet ladies, (mostly very pretty) one or two very special ladies, none worked out for one reason or another.
Then I met the girl I was going to marry, we got engaged in '76. At 25 I was still living life large, she wanted to settle down and have the 2.3 children, I wanted the same but not before we spent two years or so working and buying a house etc.. She had other reasons for the break up and I'm sure they were valid, I was very busy having a lot of fun. I had just landed a great Engineering job with New York Life in Clinton NJ, a brand new Data Processing Center. One of the first privately owned DP sites, all new military grade equipment. We both had some savings and we were house shopping in the area, then we ...Expand for more
broke up.
This changed the house hunting, I got a 200 year old place that needed a lot of work in Hampton NJ. Work went well, promotions due to my "some college" on the record and 3 NJ Engineering licenses. In 1981 at 29 1/2 years old (to the day) I was made boss of the entire crew, 14 people. Life was real good, lots of business perks and trips. Special projects in New York City. Still living large!
I met Nancy in '79 and we are still together. Never married. I kept up the large life style, with very few set backs.
In 2003 the company decided to build a sister data center in Atlanta, I figured I started this career opening a new DP center, why not open one at the end of the career. I commuted to Atlanta for a year, then moved here late 2004. Nancy followed me down 2 years later.
I've not written my autobiography here, just a cliff notes version. A whole lot of memories that I didn't post. I lived very large until my mid - late 40's, now these years, I'm just large <GRIN>. Some expected health issues, pain et al, most of you probably know what I'm talking about. I'll post more as I see necessary. Best of Luck to you all. I know I've been very lucky in my life. I hope you have as well. I have always described it as falling in ca-ca and coming out smelling like peanut butter.
I'm really enjoying reconnecting and I look forward to our reunion.
More ... maybe later... Gary
