Gary's Story
Joined the Navy when I was 18. Got married to my high school sweetheart whom I knew since she was 12, had our son Scott at 21, and traveled many, many places. Took off for California in 1964 and never returned to NJ except to visit relatives. Spent two years in Panama and then two more in Brazil returning to California (again) in 1969 where I began my college education. Continued with the Navy serving onboard a couple of Aircraft Carriers and finishing my bachelor's at San Diego State in 1977. Then moved to Washington DC until I retired from the Navy in 1984 after having moved up the ranks from recruit through Warrant Officer and finishing as a Lieutenant Commander. Started work at a small business in Maryland owned by a deaf Chinese Man. Moved to Denver Colorado after our son was lost in a car accident (age 22) and began working for Lockheed Martin as a Computer Security Engineer, then to Valley Forge before returning to Washington DC in 1993. sh town called Solvang right outside of Santa Barbara. There I was the architect and Program Manager for modernizing the network control systems for launches at Vandenberg and Cape Canaveral. Followed that work as Chief Engineer for the Magnetic Levitation Program in the US while at the same time managing the IT infrastructure for 55,000 of our employees. Finally returned to San Diego County in 2007 and semi-retired in 2008 - still doing a bit of consulting. Dee and I have now been married for 46 years and have traveled extensively in the US, South America, Asia, and Europe and once to Africa. We now live among avocados and citrus farms on a four acre hillside over looking the valley. Life is good. We were in the Witch Creek fire in San Diego in October 2007, with the flames getting within 5 five feet of our house. We survived, but three of our neighbors lost their homes. This summer (2009) we are taking a 24 day Europe vacation visiting London, Stockholm Sweden - a cruise through the Baltic and then finally six days in Paris. Life is good.
