Gary's Story

Life This is a little outdated. I have a MySpace page. I am also an Ebay Silver Power seller. I have a 10 year old son, Kyle Owen and he is the joy of my life. My sister is my best friend. There is a picture of my son and my sister attached to this profile. I'm a DEADHEAD (lifelong fan of the grateful Dead). I really love travel, music virtually all genres, well behaved children, the beach, the mountains, treasue hunting, attending auctions, self actualization, searching for the meaning of life and trying to enjoy life however I am a cynical existentalist. I mix well in all cultures and with all sorts of people. Unlike most gaudy Americans I respect other people's cultures. I have a strong interest in History, Anthropology, Science and a myriad of other things. I have recently taken college courses in Middle Eastern Studies (Egypt, Isreal, Mesopotamia), Meso American Studies (Maya, Aztecs, etc), Evolutionary anthropology and Logic and Critical thinking just for the fun of it. I swim, do aerobics, lift and play basketball mostly but enjoy a lot of activities and always like to learn new things. Recently I went on an RV trip to the NW USA. The states the tour hit were: AZ, NM, CO, WY, MT, ID, WA, OR. That was the time of my life. I plan to do it again. My ethnicity is Polish 100%. I am second generation "off of the boat". I feel eastern europeans are just as oppressed as any other minority. School Graduate of Farmington High School. I made National Honor Society. 3 Sport Letterman (the only one in our graduating class - a great trivia question for a class reunion) My letters were in Football, Wrestling, Track. I also played on the Junior Varsity team for Baseball and Basketball. I sang in Three choral groups. Two of them had to be auditioned for. I think I was a person who could span the cliques that existed. I was a jock, music jock, brainiac, prepie, nerd, gear head and partier. I refused to be pigeon holed. I didn't like the elitist...Expand for more
attitudes of some students who thought they were better than others. I tried to be nice and friendly to everyone from the smartest to the learning disabled. I would intervene when people were picking on "the albino" and the "dunc". I gotta laugh, we all thought it was so important back then! :) boy were we wrong! Workplace In a nutshell, after I graduated from college in 1983 with a BS in Petroleum Engineering, I moved from Socorro, New Mexico to Houston, Tx. The job market in petroleum engineering was at its worst ever, so after 6 months in Houston I moved back to Connecticut. I briefly worked in the heavy construction trades. maybe 9 or 10 months. I saw a career counselor, took some psych tests and found out that my interests were teaching and / or computers. Armed with that knowledge, I went to Computer Processing Institute in East Hartford CT. It was a vocational school. The most valuable thing about that school was it had a three day seminar about how to look for a job. Coming from a blue collar lower middle class family and being the first in my family to get a Bachelor's degree, I had no clue on how to look for a white collar professional job. After graduating I sent out 100 resumes, had a ton of interviews and was offered five different entry level programming jobs (Aetna, Traveler's, Mass Mutual Insurance, Associated Spring and some Bank). I worked 7 years as a programmer / systems programmer at Aetna EBD in Middletown CT. I moved to New Mexico and became a computer consultant. In the past 10 yrs I have worked at Honeywell Defense Avionics (3 times), Blue Cross of NM, Sandia National Labs (where our nuclear bombs are being stockpiled), The State of NM Child Support Enforcement and Taxation and Revenue Department. I made a killing during the Y2K crisis. I recently had a back operation go awry and I am on Long Term Disability as a result. I am now going to college again and hope to work on a Master's in Anthropology.
