Gary's Story

Was single till 1991,married a pretty little thing who grew up in Doraville,Cheryl Bagley was her name, she went to Sequoyah High School, but I married her anyway. Her Dad, and 2 brothers worked the GM Plant, and she worked at GMAC when we first met. She was living in Snellville with her 2 children Ben, and Candice ,when I knocked on her door during visitation from the Single's Sunday School class I was attending at First Baptist of Snellville. To make a long story short, I asked her to church, she came, we became friends, I broke up with a girl I was seeing, asked Cheryl out she said yes, six months later we said our "I do's", about 3 years later added a daughter Crystal. We lived in Snellville for almost 16 years, and during that time she left GMAC, to go to work at the Doraville Plant in 2000. Well when GM announced they were closing the plant, Cheryl was offered a job at the Arlington Plant in Texas, and having only 9 years to retirement so we went to Texas. Moved to a small town south of the Arlington/Ft. Worth area called Midlothian, I found employment real quick, and she went to work at the plant, and we settled into the everyday grind. As we made friends in Texas some encouraged us to get a Harley and start riding with them, well Cheryl really liked the idea, and talked me into, and in the fall of 2007 she enrolled in a motorcycle riders saftey course, I told her I would do it in the spring when it was warmer. She took the course, and passed with flying colors the head of her class, and started looking for a bike, she did'nt want to ride on the back she had to have her own! Well she found one right before Christmas, and would ride it in the neighborhood, practicing what she was taught in class. After we got back to work after the Christmas and New Years holidays we had a warm spell in Texas, and some of her friends from work was going for a ride the first weekend of 2008, we had got back from church that morning, and I was cleaning out the garage to make room for her bike, and car. When she came to me and said her friends had called from work and wanted to know if she wanted to ride with them. It was real windy that day, so when she asked me if it was ok, I told her I didn't think it was a good idea, she wasn't that good on the bike for the conditions, but she had away about getting her way like most women do, so I gave in. I had given her a leather Har...Expand for more
ley Jacket, and Harley Earrings for Christmas, and she put them on came out gave me a kiss told me she loved me, and if she got scared she would come back home, I followed her out to her bike took a couple of pics on my cell phone of her, then she rode off to join her friends. I finished cleaning the garage, and was getting ready to go to Wal-Mart when my cell phone rang, it was her ring tone, so I ran to the phone expecting her to be on the other end, and be telling me how much fun she was having! But it wasn't her it was our friend Jerry, telling me that Cheryl had been in an accident, that a car had ran into her, her put a paramedic on the phone, and he told me to hurry to the hospital, that her injuries were serious. I got our daughter, and dropped off at some friends, I told her mom had been in a small wreck that I was going to check on her, and that I would call her, and let her know mom was ok. But she saw right through me, and called her brother and sister, and got our friends to take her up to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, I passed by the wreck site, and her bike was sitting on the side of the road, hardly a scratch on it, this gave me hope that maybe the medic was wrong. When I got to the hospital, and they took me into the ICU, and I saw her, there was hardly a scratch on her, but what I couldn't see that the damage was inside, the brain was swelling, she was brain dead. I called my friends to ask them to bring Crystal to the hospital, and they said they were already in the parking lot, thankfully I was not alone when the doctors gave me the news that she was gone. The hardest thing I've ever done was to make the call to tell her family, she was gone! She was so full of life, and for it to be taken so quickly, it just not fair, but who ever said life was? And to make matters worse, if that's possible, is the guy who caused the accident, left the scene and has never been cauhgt, he pulled over looked at his car for damage, then got back in and took off, talking on his cellphone the whole time. I brought my wife back home buried her near her Mother, went back to Texas and as quickly as I could came back home to Georgia. Now I'm living with 2 of my children the girls in Grayson, my son made me a Granddaddy a week after what would have been my late wifes 48th birthday, so life goes on, the sunrises, and sets, and time heals all.....eventually
