Gary's Story

Hi Gary's Old Classmates!. My name is Linda, and I am Gary's wife of 40 wonderful years. I hope he'll forgive me ,for taking the time to bring his personal info up-to-date, for old classmates ,who are wondering what happened to 'that crazy guy, Knutson', Well, I'm going to give you the short of it. So, here goes! Gary & I met just when he had returned from Viet Nam, and was stationed here, at Ft. Bragg, NC. We met in a club, and without going into a whole bunch of boring details, we fell in love, he fell in love with my 'almost' 2 yr. old son, Jamie. Never make the mistake of using the word 'step' when you refer to Jamie as being anything to Gary. Those are fighting words to both of them! Gary (including all of his family, and each and every one of his friends.) has never, ever thought of Jamie as anything other than his son. Gary has proven to be the best husband, father, and grandfather, any woman could ever ask for. He's very loving, affectionate, attentive, caring, and protective of his family AND friends. Hearing some of the rumors as I did when we initially made our move from the Carolinas to Wisconsin, I can tell you from my heart, God couldn't have made a better person, because I have the best right here with me. We have become as one, finishing each others sentences at times. I can't say enough wonderful things about my wonderful husband. And I thank God every day that He sent him to me. Gary spent most of our marriage in the military, serving with units such as the Rangers, Special Forces, (Green Berets), and now continues to serve his country through teaching the Special Forces Qualification Course. He is a guerrilla chief, teaching and making sure the men he has had the opportunity to come in contact with, to take the time to teach each and every student to do what keeps them alive, and has the awards to prove the 'well done' job he has done with them. He is at his happiest when he's spending time with his family; either by teaching the smallest grandchild to fish or hunt, or showing them the wonders of nature. He is definitely in his element when he's in the woods, or on the water, teaching, showing, instructing his grandchildren or his students. And sometimes, me! There is a 'but' with this little story of Gary's new life. That man is his happiest, though, when he is teaching his troop...Expand for more
s, teaching them ways that if, unfortunately, they are sent to war, will help keep them safer. He's tough, very tough! But not one time, during those years of his standing in front on one of those students when they screwed-up, have I ever heard one of them say they regretted having been under his direction. His caring, nurturing soul, is right there at all times, I cannot begin to count the times I've had a student, even a general, approach me, and tell me what he meant to them. For any of you have been in the military, or had a relative in the military, know, getting a compliment about your husband, from a general! tells you everything you need to know, about what kind of man you have there, serving his country. I could go on and on about my special Gary, but it would only bore you. Just know, student friend, teacher, or whoever you are, and may be reading this, Gary Knutson is the best! He's the greatest and most wonderful man, and is totally devoted to his country. He will stand in defense of her, until the fight is over, and not before. There's an old saying about a military man or woman, It was actually initially printed as this, but is meant for woman as well. 'You can take the man out of the Army, but you will never take the Army out of the man' That, my friends, is your Gary Knutson. And are the children and I proud of him? You're darned right we are!!!! Take the time, just a minute or two, out of your day, to say a little prayer, salute our flag, any little gesture, to show your appreciation of what our men and women do for our country. And if you have the pleasure and opportunity, to see a man or woman in uniform, take the time to go to them, shake their hand, and let them know that they're appreciated for the sacrificies they make for our Country, this beautiful United Stated of America! That is Gary. maybe not so much in a nutshell. But it's enough, and maybe a little more than enough, to let you, his old classmates of RLHS, know where, and what hi's doing these days. He's teaching thousands of young men and women, the right way to protect our beloved Country, and the sensible way, to protect themselves from harm, And their comrades! Hope we'll be able to make the next RLHS Class of '65, reunion! Thank you so much for your time! Linda Knutson, proud & very loving wife of Gary Knutson
