More about Gary:"Just scroll down to the last couple short paragraphs, that's all you need to know! I live my life like an open book. I've have nothing to hide, so if you haven't been blocked from viewing my fb page, then enjoy the short read because your one of the friends and family who I truly enjoy having in my life. So, if you really want to know.... tehe... ;) here it is... Gosh, my early life and also my sister's (Tina Rea, born Tina Marie Teal) early years were broken up and shattered into so many different pieces. My mother (Helena Abbott, born Helen S. Peca) and father (Gary, born Garold Wayne Teal) divorced soon after my sister and I were born. My mother, who I love dearly, never could settle down, but she seems to like Denver a lot. She has always done the best she could with her circumstances and because my sister and I grew up with her, we moved around quite a bit as I mention later. My father remarried was stable only in the way that he could stay in one place for many years. He and my stepmother (Kathleen Teal, born Kathleen Shaw by Stewart and Marilyn Shaw) had a couple of children, Danny and Megan, who are both recently married, my brother to Becky Osborne and my sister to Travis Jones (they are about to have a baby... YAY.) I don't know just how many schools I went to... To make the list of schools easy for me, I'll start at 5th grade because I cannot remember all of the elementary schools that I've attended. So I attended Christian Academy of Greater St Louis (1979-80) from 5th grade to 7th grade; then Ritenour Middle School in Overland, MO for 8th grade (1981-2); Hazelwood Central in Hazelwood, MO (1983-4) for 9th grade; Terra Linda High School (1984-5) in Terra Linda, CA which is near San Francisco CA for 10th grade. While living in Terra Linda, I also volunteered at the Marin County Conservation Corps; then I attended Thurston High School (1986-1987) in Springfield, Oregon where I also worked at Rax Restaurant and delivering the Springfield News on my paper route. Often, we would move during the middle of the school year without any notice that we were leaving, so I would easily lose contact with many friends over the years. I did receive my high school diploma from Thurston High even though I finished the last few months of high school at Eureka High in Eureka, Missouri when I moved in with my wonderful, thoughtful and loving grandfather and grandmother Teal (Monk & Gene, born Ancel Teal & N. Imogene Bentley) who were amazing people. I would do anything for them, and they would do anything they could for me. While living with my grandparents, I worked at McDonalds until I jointed the Navy. So, that's my secondary education... that was a total of 4 different high schools in 3 different states btw. My grandparents were the greatest love of my life so far and they provided me with the stability, love and support throughout my life, especially the next ten years from 1987 through 1997. Their home was also my legal residence for the last part of high school, through my Navy years and also the years where I attended the University of Kansas. My grandfather passed only one day after my grandmother died due to complications caused by a massive stroke (in 2005.) I only know love because I've seen the great love that they shared and I miss them so much. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about them. To this day, their passing continues to have a profound effect on my daily life. I can say that I truly know what love is because of the deep love and understanding that I shared with my grandparents. In January of 1988, I joined in the Navy where I proudly served as an Aerographer's Mate, stationed in Rota Spain from 1988-1991 for NOCC (Naval Oceanography Command Center) I went to Great Lakes near Chicago for boot camp and my 'A' school was at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois where I graduated at the very top of my class. I was able to choose where I would be stationed next and I chose Rota, Spain. I really loved living in Spain, the city of Rota and the comradery in the Navy. I was stationed in Rota Spain until 1991 and then served in the reserves in Millington, Tennessee. So I was in the Navy reserves and flying to Memphis while I went to college for a couple of years. My friends and I played hard, but worked harder. Well, maybe we worked just as hard as we played... LMAO. An Aerographer's Mate in the Navy studies the weather, so I was a weather observer at the air field. I liked to party a lot ...Expand for more
with my friends at the bars! I had a blast hooking up and getting to know some of the local people who grew up in Andalucia (southern Spain.) I felt compelled to leave the Navy in 1991 because of my sexual orientation. This was prior to Clinton's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy which I view as unconstitutional, but an improvement over no policy. They were beginning to ask questions about my sexual orientation and I couldn't live my life as a lie. I knew that once the questions started, they would never end. I shouldn't be forced into living my life as a lie since my sexual orientation was never a choice that I made. It's natural for me to be the way I am and therefore would be completely unnatural for me to be straight. It was a difficult decision to leave the Navy because I really loved it. One night when I was out drinking with Greg Meyers and other friends, I'd change my mind with every beer. Every other beer I'd talk about new reasons why I should stay in the Navy, but also after the next beer I'd think about why I should leave and go back home. I had the GI bill which would pay for a lot of my college expenses, plus I loved math, drawing, art and architecture. So, I ultimately decided to leave the Navy, go back home to my grandparents and go to school to study Architecture. When I left the Navy, I went to study Architectural Technology at St Louis Community College at Meramec and worked at the Phillips 66 gas station on Clayton & Baxter roads in Ballwin, Missouri for most of 1991 when my grandfather (Otto, born Walter Peca who owned a shoe repair shop on West Florissant with his brother Joe, called Ottos Shoe Repair and who married Pauline Wojcicki who passed at a young age in 1971) on my mother's side died and was buried at Calvary cemetery near his previous home in Walnut Park on Plover. Then, I studied for my Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Kansas, where I graduated in 1996. I really don't believe that I could have done this without my grandparents. At the time, KU was the closest school to my hometown of Saint Louis, Missouri that had an accredited architecture program beside Washington University, which was out of my price range. I studied the architecture of Italy with the study abroad program at KU during the summer of 1995. I traveled around Italy for a month and visited the fabulous small towns and some of the great cities of Italy, such as Siena, Florence, Venice, Rome. After graduation is when I met Todd Brennan and we had the longest relationship that I've had so far. The relationship lasted for five years. We met for the first time at the Grind coffee house when it was on Maryland, near the Chase Park Plaza at Kingshighway and Maryland. I will always have a place in my heart for him. We grew apart and the ending seemed to be a mystery to me, but there isn't one thing about that relationship that I could be angry about. We will always share some wonderful memories. I've been working in the field of architecture since I've graduated from KU in 1996. I've never gone more than a month or two without work, but this economy has been rough for me. I lost my job at Powers Bowersox Associates and I need to get my career back on track or find a different career or maybe just find something to make money between jobs. The last project that I worked on with Powers Bowersox is a small gathering space addition at Faith Des Peres Presbyterian Church. Fred Powers and Bill Bowersox are very talented designers and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work in their office. A friend has offered me a project where I can design his new home in Destin, Florida. (OMG, have you seen pics of Destin... it's a beautiful city and the beaches look to be spectacular.) He doesn't want a traditional home and would like something fresh and innovative. Hopefully, this will happen! Memorable places, like Provincetown, Niagra Falls, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, etc... that I've been and enjoyed are listed in my facebook "likes" wherever I could find a facebook page for them. I really like and spend time looking at nature and take notice of simple everyday things, like flowers, the sun and the moon. The businesses that I've become friends with are businesses or publications that I really want to receive info from on my newsfeed, like the St Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Food Network, and the New York Times. And the specific food items listed are foods that I not only like to eat, but enjoy making, such as crepes, homemade clam chowder and french onion soup. I love to cook! If you would like to know even a little more, check out my website below. I've been volunteering time at Food Outreach and EFA, where the staff, volunteers and clients are all so fabulous. I really enjoy volunteering! I'm well traveled and well adjusted in that I really love life despite the personal challenges and I enjoy the company of others. I meet so many phenomenal people along the way, even if just in passing. I've always been so lucky to be around so many great people in my life & also to have such a wonderful sister, a great friend like Zane who is letting me stay at his place for now and my family and friends like you.".
