Gary's Story

Life I have a regulatory consulting business that serves the radiological products manufacturing community, interfacing with the FDA. I am also VP of regulatory affairs for Direct Medical Systems LLC. I have played electric bass in a band since the early 60's and am currently playing in 2 blues bands (Crosscut Band and The Tim Skelton Band) and a classic rock band named Xstatic, around the bay Area, but also keep quite busy as a professional Mobile DJ. Keep me in mind for your corporate events, weddings and reunions. I also repair pro audio equipment and am a Line6 Service Center. I also provice sound and lighting services throughout the Bay Area. I went to Serra after OLA and then CSM and later DVC. I am currently at Chabot Community College in Hayward. I have been married 3 times and had no children with any (although I have 2 adult "step children" from my current wife). I also served in the US Navy reserve for 7 years and spent 2 years on active duty from 1968 to 1970. My rating was Interior Communications Electrician 2nd Class. I am a Viet Nam era veteran. I did not serve in country but made a WestPac cruise in "behind the lines" logistical support operations on a repair sh...Expand for more
ip servicing cruisers and destroyers in COMCRUDESPAC. I was a member of the ship's company and a competitor on the USS Dixie "Los Pistoleros" pistol team with the 1911A1 .45 automatic. In 2002 I was diagnosed with stage III/IV oropharyngeal, squamous cell carcinoma (i.e. tonsil cancer). I was treated in early 2003 at UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center with radiation and chemotherapy and have been cancer free ever since. I am also a patient advocate and technical writer for the Oral Cancer Foundation. The 5 year survival rate for this stage and type cancer is 26% so there has been new meaning in the concept of "one day at a time". I am approaching my 8 year mark at the end November. Early detection is key to survival of any cancer. Insist that your hygenist and dentist examinine your mouth for oral cancer yearly. Quit smoking if you do and don't start if you don't. Limit alcohol consumption. HPV is now the leading cause for oral cancer so vaccination, is a really good idea. It is the same strains that cause cervical cancer in women so there may be a sexual connection. More often then not, there are no symptoms for HPV. If you have daughters get them vaccinated for HPV Be well...
