Gary's Story
I had a terrific job for the City of Concord
Parks and Recreation Department for 35 years.
I was Maintenance Supervisor for 20 years and
Athletic Director for 15 years. I retired at the age of 56. I am now 61.
I am still living in Concord, I live at 1800 Irish Potato Rd. I have lived at this address for 35 yrs.
I started working for the Concord Parks and Recreation Dept. shortly after High School at the age of 21. I know everybody rembers the old community swimming pool. My first job as an employee was to
repair the ceiling in the girls dressing room at the pool. That was fun!
The one thing I would do differently, I would be a better student, and study a lot harder than I did.
Life has been real good to me through the years.
I have accomplished a lot more than I ever expected
to. I have two wonderful children. Gary, Jr. is 40 years old, and Julie Elizabeth Cress Harkey is 35.

dent. Alex Cress and Tiffany Cress were my grandchildren, they were beautiful children and full of life. Tiffany was 14 and Alex was 10. Both Alex and Tiffany was very athletic. Tiffany played basketball and softball and Alex played baseball
and basketball. Those two children was the reason I retired so soon. I wanted to see all of their Athletic games and other school events.
I am still married to my high school sweetheart,
Carole Stallings Cress. If the good Lord lets us live to June 29th we will be married for 42 yrs. That's not
counting the three years we dated in high school.
Carole and I love to travel. We go to Las Vegas twice a year, we take a Royal Caribbean Cruise every year and we try to go to New York City once a year. We take a week long trip to Mytle Beach twice a year.
I don't get to see many of my classmates that I went to High Scool with, but I think about a lot of the guys that I played football and baseball with for four years. I would like to hear from some of those guys.
