Gary's Story

Well I was known as ...your Calvins brother. "Nothing like Calvin." Probably looked lost to alot of people or maybe just looking tofit in. I joined the Service Gents... yes we did good things too. I ran for Freshman Class President against Jim Hefner...remember four score and many years ago our fathers brought forth on this vacent lot...my speech to freshman class. I left Bolsa and went to Warren O. Mendenhall (continuation school) down the street, would come back and get chased off campus, was getting into alot of trouble. But I did stay long enough to graduate from Mendenhall graduating class of (7) yeah there were 7 of us. I was voted by staff "Most likely to suceed" and even recieved a schollarship... who knew? I joined the Army right after I turned 18. Yeah they took me...lol I enlisted to be a Food Inspection Specialist... I was thinking there will always be food so I'll have a job when I get out, so I thought . The equivelant to what I did in the army was USDA and there were all these older men and women that weren't looking to go anywhere soon, so I changed professions. Oh I came back from Germany with a pregnant wife, a very large German shepard, and a german cat...hehehe I bought a home in San Diego. Stayed there a few years and then moved to Washington State, still hooked up working for the government. Had my second son in Washington bought another house( they were cheeper up there, bigger, got more for your money) I worked for uncle sam for almost 15 years and due to an unfortunate incident I was escorted off the base with military police escort. (government swept it under the rug) Anyway, right after that I got divorced came back to CA, was sick (mentally) got into trouble because don't you know my old friends were still doing the same things before I left GG 15 plus year prior...OMG ... For whatever reason something snapped and made a decission to persue something different in life...I didn't know what it was or where I'd find it I just knew what I was doing was getting me "nothing" but possibly an early funeral. Anyway, this change was all about not using drugs or alcohol...Expand for more
, you guys didn't know that right? haha well it started on Jully 11, 1991. Shortly after I started this journey I got married again and shortly after having my third child( A GIRL) :-) I got my second divorce. Went through the deaths of my dad in 1974, During my second marriage my father-in-law passed from cancer in1982, during my second marriage my father-in-law passed in 1992. I have since not remarried. My second son has blessed the Hazama name with a Grand Daughter and a Grand Son, they still live in Washington, it gives me a nice place to vacation every few years. I havea wonderful loving relationship with both my ex's. we get along better today than when married, I think because they have men in their lived and not trying to "control me". I did go back to school even when told I was to old... I was 38 and it was a certification by the state of California to be a Substance Abuse Counselor. It actually gave me the oppertunity to take the state exam, since passing I have currently worked as a substance abuse counselor for going on 16 years. My dream was to someday work in a Hospital and I have worked for Chapman Medical Center for total of 10 years. I left at one point to teach (yeah I was shocked myself), I was Clinical Coordinator at InterCoast College for several years helping get student ready for this profession. (students hated me) hmmm What I did was on a daily basis make my students think, What am I doing, How am I going to do it? How is my mental health? Have I clean out my closet? They thought it was none of my business... I hope the ones working in the profession realize how important it is today. I have shared alot of my life with you... its been my journey and its not over. I remember a few years ago I called up a girl I use to go to church with (really I went to church) and she was shocked because she thought I had died because of what I was up to then. Its ok it shocked me at first also. But I'm here to tell anyone interested... I know I'm here for a reason... hope to speak with someof you as I continue this journey! what do you remember me being like? Lets talk!
