Gary's Story

Life It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting there listening to Father Simms read Dear Abby or Ms. Evans (Big Red) driving into the parking lot in her red car with her red hair fluttering in the breeze, her red high heels clicking against the tiles of the floor and watching her red coated lips parting, then closing again as she gives her lessons in English class. Not! It actually seems like several lifetimes since tracking down the hallways, singing in the showers in gym class or chatting with friends at lunchtime at Hart High. I could add here: Where has the time gone? But, the accumulation of memories in my mind and heart, the miles traveled around this great country, the beauty I have beheld through both physical and spiritual eyes, the many dreams that have come true, the people I have met, friendships shared, lost, and the wear and tear on this body are just a few of the many indicators of Where that Time has gone! My one regret is that I have not been able to make it to any of the '64 Class Reunions or kept in contact with my friends from Hart High. Sorry. I have been too busy living life for the past 40+ years. I was moving to and living in 4 states and 23 cities since graduation. I raised 2 sons, lost one son and a daughter at birth, accumulated 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. I have been loving them and sharing in their little lives since bidding farewell to all from the high school campus life. I have dreamed dreams and then set forth to make them materialize into realities. I have fished and hunted, trekked many miles of wilderness, with backpack and camera, in our homeland. e sun in many wonderful places and sceneries. I've gone into and came out of burning buildings, experienced the pains and sorrows of the parents of a child lost to SIDS and seen death on our highways 29 times during thirteen years of fire service. I helped build 727's in Seattle, Washington, then built 88 747's in Inglewood, California, and for the last 35 years I have been in the wood products industry in the Pacific Northwest building, repairing and reconditioning sawmill machinery for sales throughout the world. My dreams have been many, accomplishments numerous, my loves adorned, life experiences astonishing and my regrets few, so I guess it could be construed that I have had a wonderful life since youthful days at Wm. S. Hart High. My only sorrow is that I didn't share more of it with my fellow classmates! But, I will welcome any and all who care to communicate from these days forward! Take care and God Bless! Update 4/2014: I had my twelfth great-grandchild last month. A beautiful little girl named Marley Joan Fuller. I get to see her and her gorgeous sister quite often as they live only ten miles away from me. I have loads of pictures posted on my Facebook at garyw.smith.92. My two granddaughters, Kendra (Mom to Zoe and Marely) and Aunt Stephanie keep me updated regularly! I recently had cancer surgery. They removed my prostate and ALL the cancer, so cancer free again! I will go back to work when released, but hope to retire before summer. I will then travel around the country to see grand and great-grand children I haven't seen in several years. I want to see as many of our National Parks as I can before I get too old drive. For now, Life Goes On!
