Gene (Flip)'s Story

Quit school and joined the Navy at 17 years old (turned out to be the best thing I ever did) Did my stint aboard the USS Noa DD841, we picked up John Glenn, and 3 weeks later rescued survivors from a tanker that had split in half. Was in during early vietnam, cuban missle crisis, and Bay of Pigs. My service qualified me for VA health care which is the best health care I have ever recieved ...Expand for more
without which I could not have retired at age 60. Got out of the Navy At 19 years old, started an apprenticeship in the International typographical Union at Rough Notes printing for 4 years. Became a Journyman Printer at 23. Worked at the Indianapolis star-news for 14 years Took a nice buyout and retired in Florida for 3 years. Then went into auto sales and have been in Florida ever since.
