George's Story

Updated 01/06/2014 After UFA, I attended MVCC in Utica, and later Harper College in Illinois. In 1967, I worked at Rome Cable as a Quality Assurance Technician.. In 1968, I was married (still am), and since have had three children, and six grandchildren. In 1969, I joined Univac Corp. at their Worldwide Distribution Center in Ilion, N.Y. Univac later merged with Burroughs Corp to become Unisys Corp, where I spent thirty-five years. In 1971, our division relocated to the Chicagoland area, where I have lived ever since. In 2004, I retired from Unisys then worked another two years doing Inventory Control for a distributor, Steiner Electric. In 2006, I moved into a new home in a Del Webb Active Adult Community in Elgin, Illinois. Retirement is great, but I am still busy participating in community events, staying healthy, travelling, and volunteering. Currently I am volunteering at a local public school in a fourth grade classroom helping kids with reading, spelling and math. I also volunteer at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL on the cardiac care floor performing various duties to assist the staff and comfort patients. I have been a member of our local community Lifestyle Committee which investigates new enhancements for our community, and our Neigh...Expand for more
borhood Watch. As of November 2013, I have become a court appointed special advocate (CASA), and Guardian ad Litem in Kane County, IL. A CASA volunteer represents children who are in court due to abuse and neglect. We gather information and advocate for the children's best interests in court. We work independently yet cooperatively with DCFS. I have done a lot of travelling over the past few years, and I still have many more places on my list to see. I continue to visit family in the Utica area every year. In 2010, I participated in the Am. Diabetes 'Cure de Tour' bike ride in Verona Beach, and the Am. Cancer Society 'Relay For Life' at MVCC in Utica. I also attended our 45th joint '65/'66 UFA class reunion, and had a wonderful time meeting many former classmates. The tour we had of the old UFA building brought back many good memories. With luck I will be at our 50th reunion, and hope to see many more former Titans there. This story is a work-in-progress. I plan to update it periodically. I would like to renew friendships and make new ones. It doesn't matter who you are or your age, JUST LEAVE ME A NOTE AND SAY Hi. I'm sure you have an interesting story to tell as well, and I'd like to hear it. Look for me also on Facebook. to be continued...
