George's Story
I graduated Indiana University in 1973 after the Army. I worked for General Motors, then quit to become an insurance adjuster. I moved to Alaska in 1975 and lived in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Wasilla until 1994.
While in Wasilla, I began working for the VA, then returned to Indiana for a year of computer training (Marion, IN). After training, I relocated to Hot Springs, SD. I left federal service in 1999 working as an independent contractor in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, South Carolina, and Oregon. I specialized in computer technical support, installation and repair.
I'm now back with the federal government--Army, this time--providing Information Security for the Fort McCoy network. I live in Cashton, WI--a little town about 10 miles from the interstate and with poor cell phone reception--I love it. I have an acre on a hillside; I'm visit...Expand for more
ed by coyotes, beer and deer--plus countless birds. A family of eagles live just down the road, and life is good.
I married in 1981 (2nd time's the charm) and now have four grown children and five grandchildren. My oldest son lives about 5 miles away; my other son got out of the Marines after 2 tours in Iraq and now lives near Charleston, SC. One daughter lives in Colorado; the other lives in Idaho! We're pretty well scattered around the country.
Lori and I attend a fantastic church--First Evangelical Free (Onalaska, WI)--we've acquired some great friends there. I've had several opportunities to teach, and both of us are working in Celebrate Recovery--a faith-based 12-step group for people with "hurts, hang-ups, and habits."
Now that I'm looking hard at 67 I'm already drawing social security, and I'm planning my retirement in 2014 (maybe).
